Daryl Hannah & Tom Sizemore / Chuck Palahniuk's Snuff

After first seeing the indie adaptation of Choke with Sam Rockwell, we got on a Chuck Palahniuk frenzy a few years back, covering stories on various adaptations like Survivor or Lullaby, that still haven't taken off. However, it looks like another Palahniuk film is finally coming together, as a report on the author's website (via AICN) says the director of the adaptation, French filmmaker Fabien Martorell, provided them with details on casting. Daryl Hannah has been cast as Cassie Wright, the aging porn queen intent on banging 600 men in one day, and will be joining Tom Sizemore and Thora Birch (Ghost World, Terror Train).

If you're not familiar with author Chuck Palahniuk, he's got a very raunchy style and it makes sense that Snuff is an indie adaptation. "Snuff is a suspense/thriller sets in the gritty world of adult entertainment." The story, which isn't all just about porn (right?), focuses on: "three men in a crowded basement await their turn at gang-banging – on camera – an aging porn queen and reveal they all have more at stake than simply securing their spot in adult entertainment history." Fabien Martorell co-wrote the script with Karina Wilson and intends to shoot it with "a single 'closed door' set" and use flashbacks to help "in the communication of character history, and help sustain a dramatic rhythm." This doesn't really sound great, but you never know.

Snuff, which you can get for $11 from Amazon, was first published in 2008. They're still casting and location scouting, but shooting should start later this year. That's all they say about this adaptation, but it should be interesting for Palahniuk fans. We'll keep you updated on this and other adaptations, but we suggest visiting ChuckPalahniuk.net for the latest. Anyone believe Hannah and Sizemore might be good in this?

Update: Uh oh. Deadline is reporting now that "Daryl Hannah is upset that an explosion of web reports have her starring as an aging porn star" in Snuff. Looks like she's off the list. "According to her reps, Hannah has never heard of the project… she is embarrassed by this and has no plans to take part," which now makes this entire casting report seem fishy to begin with. We're just reporting what was originally posted on the official Palahniuk site so maybe they had some bad info sent to them. Either way, surprising and strong update from Daryl Hannah, but oh well, she didn't really seem to matter much in regards to this anyway.

Love chuck palahniuks work...Lets also not forget Fight Club, also written by him. Lets hope they can pull this off, cuz if they do it correctly it could potentially be a classic like fight club. Although this isnt the Palahniuk book i am most looking forward to being adapted (first would be Haunted, and Rant) but who knows...could be good as long as they go for a hard R rating

Sizemore is still alive!?!? Hell after Black Hawk Down (one of his best performances, right after Saving Private Ryan) the man seemed to fade into obscurity, I always felt he shined in Military based films...perhaps a well adapted Palahniuk story would do him well.

Chuck's books have just gotten worse. Fight Club through Rant were awesome, but starting with Snuff, then Pygmy, and now Tell-All. I long for the old Chuck. I kinda hope this doesn't get made because it will just make it harder for any of his good books to ever be adapted. Lullaby or Survivor would both make rad movies in the hands of the right director. Count me as Not Interested.

I really did not enjoy the book, I'm curious to see how they'll adapt it without it being NC-17...

Tom Sizemore? Apparently the casting director's never seen Celebrity Rehab before.

A few things wrong with the article: 1. There's no suspense/thriller elements in the book, and adding it to an adaptation will make no sense seeing at it mostly takes place inside a basement. 2. There's no gangbangs: the pornstar is trying to reach the record of most times any one person has been fucked in one movie. 3. The three guys agenda are (with motives likely not immediately given) -a pornstar trying to get even more fame for being the man to kill the woman pornstar 'accidentally' -a kid whose parents told him that he is the pornstar's son -a shitty has-be actor trying to get back on the media spotlight by being in a porn So the first guy IS trying to get a foothold in the industry, one he already had before.
