Finally, a project for Dwayne Johnson, formerly "The Rock", to star in that actually sounds like it might be good. Deadline reports that Johnson is attached to star in an adaptation of the comic book miniseries the Monster Hunter's Survival Guide, published by Zenescope. The live-action adventure film is being produced by Simon Kinberg (Jumper, X-Men: First Class, This Means War) at his company Genre Films. The newly published book series by John Paul Russ is a comprehensive guide to hunting monsters, the undead and unnatural beasts, and survive the confrontations. I hope this turns out as awesome as it sounds.
Monsters surround us. They're everywhere; on TV, in movies… they haunt our nightmares. But are they real? Do Vampires, Werewolves, and Zombies really exist? And if so, how can we survive against them? At last here is the comprehensive guide every Monster Hunter must have! Whether you're a weekend Bigfoot hunter or a hardcore Vampire slayer you simply can't afford not to own this book. The Monster Hunters Survival Guide will not only instruct you on how to be the first to catch one of these mysterious Cryptids - but it's the only way you'll be able to survive the experience!
Dwayne Johnson appeared in Justin Lin's highly praised Fast Five earlier this year, and is set to appear in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (watch the trailer), Jon M. Chu's G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation (first look), Ric Roman Waugh's Snitch and Justin Lin's new Fast and the Furious #6, whenever that gets made. As for Monster Hunter's Survival Guide, there's no info on how soon we might be seeing this or even who's writing or directing or much else, but I like the sound of the concept, especially with Johnson attached, so we'll keep an eye on it. If interested, you can grab one issue of the Survival Guide for $10 on Amazon. Sound good?

This might be the closest thing we get to a modern grown-up Monster Squad movie in the anywhere near future. I think that Johnson is the right combination of believable butt-kicker and swaggering one-liner quotes to lead something that should be fun, action-packed, and hopefully a good old fashioned popcorn muncher. Count me in!

Johnson's my dude. He's been my favorite entertainer since his EARLY days in WWF with the nation of domination when everyone HATED his guts (measure of a good villan). I'm really happy he's getting some good roles that'll better define his career. He's gotten the Doom's and kiddie movies out of the way and now can just kick some ass!!

Awesome. Now maybe Zenescope will have enough money to pay me for the work I did for them almost 3 years ago...

I'd rather see him as the lead in an adaptation of Larry Correia's "Monster Hunter International". That's one book screaming to be a movie.
