The actress already faced off hoards of undead alongside Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson and Abigail Breslin, and while a sequel to Zombieland has been in the works ever since the release of the 2009 horror comedy, Emma Stone will battle more zombies in a different film before that happens. Variety reports that Stone was offered but did not take the lead in the adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies with director Craig Gillespie (the man behind the Fright Night remake) at the helm. Based on the popular period romance remix by Seth Grahame-Smith, the new story adds zombies to Jane Austen's seminal classic.
Previously the role had been linked to the likes of Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson back when David O. Russell was still involved, but now this sounds like a solid foundation for the adaptation to finally start moving forward. Portman is still producing through her Handsomecharlie Films production banner, and funnily enough, Fright Night remake writer Marti Noxon is working on the script with the book's author. Though Stone has battled zombies before, the period setting should change things up a bit, and I hope the fun and originality of adding zombies to such an iconic novel will be able to come through on the big screen.
Update: Sadly, it looks like this casting news was a bit premature, as it has since been reported/confirmed by Deadline that Emma Stone has passed on this role and will not be starring in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies after all. Damn! How many awesome actresses is that? They've gone through so many, sad to see this struggling to actually cast a lead actress, as that's the most important part and they need someone like this to carry it. "An offer was made, but it never got to the negotiation stage," they say, so it was the announcement about Stone's involvement that was reported way early. We'll continue to keep you updated.

Sounds like a good pairing. Hopefully this movie can finally get off the ground. Maybe I'm crazy, but I think Emma Stone is better looking, plus she brings more empathy to her roles than Portman and Johansson, who have more range but tend to come off as wooden.

Er, "wooden" Portman just won an Oscar....Stone never will. But she could always do World War Z if not this one.
