Emma Thompson to Script 'Annie' Remake for Will & Willow Smith?

Emma Thompson

Back in January we got some news that Will Smith was looking to team-up with his chart-topping singer daughter Willow Smith for a remake of the classic musical Annie over at Columbia Pictures. To make things even more interesting, rapper Jay-Z was also said to be collaborating on the music for the film. Well, for those of you wishing this was a dream, Vulture says project is making some progress with discussions commencing to have actress and occasional screenwriter Emma Thompson adapt the musical for the big screen. This shouldn't be a hard deal to finalize with Thompson working with Smith on Men in Black 3.

Though Thompson hasn't written a ton of screenplays, her work on films such as Sense and Sensibility and some uncredited work on the 2005 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice speaks for itself. It'd also be nice if she ended up taking a role in front of the camera as the orphanage director since her comedic timing and acting talent more than qualifies her for the supporting role. Last we heard, "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy was the top choice to direct the new take on the musical, but no word on whether that deal will actually come together. Honestly, I can't say I'm thrilled with this remake, but the talent getting involved at least has my attention. Maybe this could turn out to be something great?

This is a prime example of how nepotism is KING in Hollywood! .....I still don't get the appeal of Jay-Z, though! I doubt this movie will break any box office records. I wish them luck!

"I doubt this movie will break any box office records" I don't agree. It's all marketing

Yuck......the original movie from the early '80's was great, do we really have to rap the damn movie now?  Enough with their kids, already.......

Well, to all the haters and racists...I'm sorry this post has doomed you all! It's going to be a smash. It has amazing talents involved! and who says it was about rap? Not because Jay-z is involved that it has to be rap. You guys are really morons and should get some knowledge of music before running your mouth, For sombody who headlined a fully booked Glastonbury (google it , as I am sure you don't even know what that is)
