Empire's New 'The Dark Knight Rises' Batman & Bane Covers Unveiled

What the *Batman* is that? Empire has been running a viral voting game the last few days asking fans to choose which cover of their new issue gets unveiled first - Batman or Bane. The covers are for The Dark Knight Rises and are Empire's "world's first" TDKR mag covers. Once enough votes were cast (about 160K on Saturday), the Bane cover was revealed. It looks badass, nothing we haven't seen before, but I'm more intrigued by Batman—what the heck is he holding, some newfangled UV Bat-binoculars, perhaps? You can see the Bane cover in full below and most of what's revealed of the Batman cover so far, too. Bah-Sah-Rah!
Click on either image to jump to Empire where the reveal took place. I prefer the Bane one - he just looks so badass! Tom Hardy is going to steal the show playing Bane. Any idea what that new gadget is Batman has?
The Dark Knight Rises finishes the Batman saga begun by Christopher Nolan in 2005 with Batman Begins. We featured the first teaser back in July and have been waiting patiently for the next trailer later this year.
The Dark Knight Rises is once again directed by Oscar nominated British filmmaker Christopher Nolan, of Following, Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight and Inception previously. The script was co-written by Christopher & Jonathan Nolan (The Prestige, The Dark Knight), from a story by Chris Nolan & David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight). Warner Bros is bringing The Dark Knight Rises to regular and IMAX theaters everywhere on July 20th, 2012 next summer. The Fire Rises!

Seriously.... looks like the same gadget found in Arkham City; the remote electrical charge.... If it is, those lucky s.o.b.'s over at rocksteady studios got some inside info on TDKR! "Excuse me ma'am, could you fax me an application form please?"

well, since it's ann hathaway playing catwoman - forgotten is exactly where i'd like to leave it. i'm still laughing my ass off at those early pics of her in that suit.
Anonymous on Nov 19, 2011

Suit looks horrible i'll give you that, but dude, how can you NOT agree with her being cast? Picture her with blood-red lipstick in what SHOULD be the correct suit and tell me i'm wrong, I dare y'a.....no, i double dare y'a

nobody "double-dares" me!!!! LOL i don't understand the percentage of movie-watchers that equate how attractive someone is to how good they'll be in a film (not that i think hathaway is attractive - i don't.)anyway - hathaway can't act. i've never liked her at all. and when is the last time she was in a HUGE production like this??.......never. hopefully she isn't as bad as katie holmes was.

Watch Rachel Getting Married and it will completely change your opinion of Hathaway. She's an excellent actor.

Wow, that doesn't even look like Tom Hardy, so great looks for Bane! Catwoman :/.....i hope being Nolan makes the Batman movies as true to life as possible that her character is just a chick in her 30's that lives in a lonely apt filled with 50 cats like an old widow hense "catwoman". And ann hathaway is the choice of character for doing what she does best in all her movies....showing off her jugs.

im sorry but Bane looks like a 1989 Ninja Turtles action figure villain.

I don't like either of these. I think it's a real problem that the marketing team is too confident about this film's performance based on the last one's numbers. And it shows. No clever viral campaigning (as of yet, anyway) like the Joker one, a teaser trailer that pushes the boundaries of 'teasing', the release of a banal publicity still for Catwoman, and now these sub par cover images that just seem like masked out stills from set unit photography with no mood or campaign-ish look & feel to them as opposed to proper professional looking studio shots with a slight photoshop treatment. This is embarrassing. Warner Bros have generally been quite lazy with most of their film campaigns, the only exceptions being Dark Knight and Potter. I'm hoping they at least get it right with Dark Shadows.

Sorry, I need to correct myself by mentioning that the only thing that's left me impressed so far has been the teaser poster. Obviously the film itself is going to be incredible, it's just embarrassing that they're not working hard at building up a campaign that is deserving of the awesome movie we all know this is gong to be.

Bane is NOT big enough! If you go by the comic....he is freakishly huge! Not just muscular! I hope they put in so CGI muscles or something...otherwise it will not have the impact it's supposed to have. Bane is the only person to ever BREAK Batman, literally. He broke his back!

he broke batman's back? really............................................................................................................................................................................
AcadianSon on Nov 20, 2011

I don't think Nolan goes for copying the comics to that degree, prefers to keep things a little more realistic........
Stevenmark on Nov 21, 2011

Yeah Bane is wayyy too small. He should be about 6x bigger. If they don't use CGI to make him extremely jacked, it's just gonna be a bust, because Bane is known for being extremely huge. Plus the definition of the word "bane" is "death;destruction." Nolan better get this film right because so far Bane is lookin like poop.

Still some doubts about Bane, Catwoman and even Nolan eh? Reminds me of Ledger being cast as the Joker and his reveal photo and a lot of people saying the movie will suck/Nolan has failed, etc. No need to say what happened afterwards. 😉
