Famke Janssen Joining the Cast of 'Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters'

Famke Janssen

Our titular characters have already been cast with Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton playing Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, now another actress is apparently joining Paramount's dark take on the classic fairytale siblings. The Playlist has learned Famke Janssen (X-Men, Taken) has landed an unknown role in a story that finds Hansel & Gretel about 15 years after surviving the encounter with a witch in the infamous gingerbread house. The two siblings are now full-time killers whose primary targets are witches like the one who terrorized them at a young age. This is probably the fairytale adaptation I'm most excited to see made.

If I had to guess, I'd say there's probably a good chance that Janssen will play one of the hunted witches, if not the primary villain in the story. Of course without any real plot information, it's hard to say. This is certainly going to be an interesting take on the fairytale with Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow) at the helm of the feature with a cast like this. In addition, with an unlikely duo of Adam McKay and Will Ferrell producing through their Gary Sanchez banner, this could be a whole new direction for the mostly comedic producers. Though a release date isn't set, Paramount hopes to start production in March so Renner has time to shoot the film between Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and The Avengers. Sound good?
