Fernando Meirelles is Also Developing a Biopic on Aristotle Onassis

This may not be the City of God reunion anyone was expecting, but it has the potential to be great anyway. Given that The Kennedys got shafted, that may be making way for a whole different kind of Kennedy story. Vulture reports that City of God, The Constant Gardener, Blindness director Fernando Meirelles (L) is re-teaming with screenwriter Bráulio Mantovani, who wrote City of God, to develop a biopic called Onassis about the infamous Aristotle Onassis, who is said to be behind the two assassinations of the Kennedys. And they're going epic on this. Meirelles "sees it as a sort of Godfather, with Onassis at the center." Bring it on!
For those who don't know, Aristotle Onassis was a prominent Greek shipping magnate of the 20th century. He married the widow of President JFK, Jacqueline Kennedy, in 1968. This will be based on Peter Evans' best-selling book Nemesis: The True Story of Aristotle Onassis, Jackie O, and the Love Triangle That Brought Down the Kennedys. The book focuses on Onassis' antipathetic relationship with Robert Kennedy. As attorney general, Bobby had investigated Onassis' international business practices and banned him from trading with the US, which apparently links with RFK's assassination. Definitely a very interesting topic for these two to collaborate on and turn into a Godfather-like epic, I'm definitely intrigued, I can't wait to see what they come up with for this. Production company Pathe from France is currently developing this.
Meirelles, who I've followed since seeing City of God, is currently shooting a BBC Films project about "sexual morals" called 360 starring Rachel Weisz, Jude Law, Ben Foster, Anthony Hopkins, Peter Morgan, Jamel Debbouze. He's also slated to direct a segment of Rio, I Love You, but this Onassis project looks like it has the potential to be his next project. I've been waiting for Meirelles to return with something epic on the scope of City of God, this could finally be it! Or at least something new and exciting. We'll keep you updated.

Nobody knows who was behind the killing of the Kennedy brothers,everyone from the Mafia{ who shot Oswald} to Castro,to the KKK,or an inside job.The most likely is that it was two mixed up lone operators with totally differant reasons.Linking Onassis to it is far and away the most unlikely scenario compared to the others. This film looks promising with the director behind it,hopefully they might get Hopkins to play him as an older man.
