Conan the Barbarian

Words are not needed to introduce him. Lionsgate has debuted the first "motion poster" via IGN for Conan the Barbarian 3D, the Marcus Nispel-directed reboot of the classic, badass Robert E. Howard character. Former "Stargate: Atlantis" actor Jason Momoa is taking over for Schwarzenegger as Conan the Barbarian this time, and can be seen on the poster below. We haven't seen a trailer for this movie yet, or anything else besides a few photos from last year, but this makes me think something big is coming soon, so stick around. In the meantime, you can also check out the brand new official website, which currently only has this poster.

In addition to Momoa, Conan stars Ron Perlman as Corin, Stephen Lang as Khalar Zym, Rachel Nichols as Tamara, Rose McGowan as Marique (no longer Red Sonja!) and Saïd Taghmaoui. This is being directed by Marcus Nispel of the Friday the 13th remake, that atrocity Pathfinder, the other Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, and a bunch of music videos. This is a Nu Image/Millennium Films production co-produced by Avi Lerner and Joe Gatta and is based on the classic Robert E. Howard characters which first debuted in 1932 in Weird Tales. Lionsgate is bringing Conan the Barbarian to theaters in 3D on August 19th in the summer.

I like it, reminds me of the Spartacus feel from the newer two seasons on Starz. Not quite 300 stylistic, but not realistic either. I'm interested!

Jertown on Mar 3, 2011

Lame... but then again im not 12 anymore.

Happy Camper on Mar 3, 2011

Dang Alex, I thought you had some taste son! "Epic"?

Marcus on Mar 3, 2011

Apparently not. I don't know, how else would you describe this? Give me a good adjective to use instead that is not outright derogatory?

Alex Billington on Mar 3, 2011

Its epic Alex this guys head just seems crammed somewhere up his ass.

Once more to all those who are crazy about this movie or any thing is coming out as hype for it .. It will be another big lame movie .. and the reasons : 1-The ENTIRE movie has been shot in Bulgaria !! and we all know what does that mean .. low budget and a lot of mistakes ... 2- The companies who are behind this movie are : Millennium Films and Nu Image Films !!! do I have to describe them again !!??? 3- more than half of the crew are Bulgarian .. I am not being racist here but the truth must be said : It is all about money for them not making a good art .. lazy while working .. and of course they are 100 times less experienced than anyone from Hollywood . I am saying this just to advice you for two things : 1- Do not let your expectation to be so high ..otherwise you may get shocked by the amount of duplication, effects and shots this movie will get from 300 and in my opinion 1 episode of "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" or "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena" will be much better than this movie . 2- We all knows why both Millennium Films and Nu Image Films making most of their movies in 3D .. just to take more money from you and show you less 3D stuff .. I for myself will not be so brainless to watch this in Cinema ... I don't know about you . 😉

1. Old conan was shot in freakin spain in the 80's 2. Nu Image Films has some of the best action movie's ( 3. Yes you are being racist. Quit whining!

Jarno on Mar 3, 2011

You are whining and an Ass Kisser You had to show this link too : and let the readers see what the entire movies they made are !! Not just some posters in the first page !! who most of them still not released ! Nu Image is the killer of the movie star legends !! *Van Damme called them in his movie "JCVD" : ( You get good money, they send me to Bulgaria, the fucking factory ! ) .. This is not my words it is from the movie while he was explaining why he was making low budget movies . *The worst movies of Steven Seagal - Wesley Snipes -Dolph Laundgren and many more ... were produced and mostly been made in Bulgaria . *Not just speaking about action stars .. But even both De Niro and Al Pacino couldn't make " Righteous Kill " look great and "Heat " was much better .. and again the reason is Nu Image who bring cheap directors and spend less money possible to just make more money and not give a real art . You accuse me by racism when I am saying the truth !? If the truth is making me racist then let it be .. I will be the biggest racist in the world ! at least I am saying the truth . You must be Bulgarian and I am kind a sure you work for them and maybe you know me and that is why you can't handle the truth ... 😉 Calm down and take it easy ... After all I have many good friends in Bulgaria and they are the best people I know ... But it doesn't hide the fact they are too working just for money and they doesn't care about art and they have no enough experience in movie making as Hollywood artists. I am writing with my real name and I am not afraid from anyone .. why you are not become a man and tell me who you are and what proves you have that this movie will not be another sh*t !!?? It is better to shut up .. when you have no proves and try to deal with the reality as it is .. do not become a slave for anyone just because they pay you doing that .

shero on Mar 3, 2011

To be serious, it's to much effort to reply to all you wrote. Thx for explaining though!

Jarno on Mar 3, 2011

As a real REH fan and having read all the Conan works I think this movie may go somewhere towards portraying a decent attempt at the Conan Hyborian world. Yes it is shot in Bulgaria et, but that in my opinion is better than blue screen shite like Green Lantern. I am not keen on the 3d gimick, but if it is even close to a real Conan portrayl ( not like the John Milius dross fo the 80s) then so be it. I read the articl ein Empire and it is a hard "R" rating so i expect it to be gritty and heavy. Fingers crossed

Motion posters! Next you'll be telling me there's talking cars. One thing that's weird with it is that he's not breathing, I might be missing something though is he really good at holding his breath in the comics?

Crapola on Mar 3, 2011

I hope this is good, but I'm sniffing typical hollywood bs here. Over the top Stylized check Questionable casting check Remake check PC action hero check Made for youth check All they need is BS heavy metal music. I fear this will go the way of Clash of the Titans.

l.21 on Mar 3, 2011

I hope they keep it r rated, a pg13 would be pretty weak and ya be another clash of the titans

Fukcyuo on Mar 3, 2011

alex you know what you are talking about that is the most badass epic poster ever don't listen to them

Jsam227 on Mar 3, 2011

Nice poster! Anyone hating on this either think they're just too good or just have something up their Arse!

Nate on Mar 3, 2011

Yeah, I agree. God forbid anyone would simply dislike the poster for aesthetic reasons. People having a differing opinion from yours, pfft, ridiculous! They must all be retarded ass monkeys or stuck up hipsters! Yeah!

Anonymous on Mar 3, 2011

Yes, well said. Good to know there is someone as narrow minded as I am!!!

Nate on Mar 3, 2011

Well played. Jerk. =P

The poster itself is kinda cool although the guy looks like he's obsessed with his package. As for the movie I'm not interested because sga sucked and mommas character may have got like what three syllables during the entire show, but at the same time if all the alantards go see it, it may do ok!

Anonymous on Mar 3, 2011

Looking good. I hope the movie will be epic, this picture reminds me somehow with Prince Of Persia.
