"You were born to rule." Wow, this looks good. Our friends at Vlicious found the first French trailer for Jean-Jacques Annaud's Saharan desert oil epic Black Gold, but don't worry, the film is entirely in English. In brief, I could describe this as Lawrence of Arabia meets There Will Be Blood, it has that kind of feel to it, and an incredible cast to go with that. Antonio Banderas leads with Mark Strong (who is in so deep a character he's hardly recognizable), featuring Freida Pinto, Tahar Rahim from Un Prophete and Corey Johnson. This really does look outstanding, I can't wait to see more. This trailer is definitely a must watch!
Watch this first French trailer for Jean-Jacques Annaud's Black Gold, originally from YouTube:
Black Gold, originally Black Thirst (also Or Noir in French seen above), is directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud (of Quest for Fire, Seven Years in Tibet, Enemy at the Gates, Two Brothers) and shot on-location out in the Sahara. The script was written by Annaud & Menno Meyjes (Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade, The Siege, The Passion Within) adapted from Hans Ruesch's Arab. If you want to see a bit more, Playlist has a behind-the-scenes video looking at the scope of the shoot. Despite the Warner Bros logo, this doesn't have a US distributor yet, that's only in France/UK and most of Europe. We'll let you know when we have info on a US release, as we're not sure when to expect this - likely next year. Thoughts on the trailer anyway?

Tahar Rahim brings it in this one. If his performance is half as good as it was in Un Prophete this film is going to be epic.

lol "with Mark Strong (who is in so deep a character he's hardly recognizable)" Uhh yeah it was obvious that was Mark Strong in caption pic. Then again I am good at recognizing actors... and Mark has done about 20 movies in the last 3 years. Great actor sure, but unless he branches out into comedy or goofball roles or just taking some time off he's really risking overexposure.

The film looks good but Banderas is speaking with a spanish accent, like he did in the 13th Warrior. That made no sense then and it makes no sense in this film

Neither Lawrence of Arabia nor There Will Be Blood had a tacked on half-assed love story.
