The Raven Trailer

"What cannot be disputed, is that your imagination is the inspiration of a horrendous crime." Relativity has debuted the first official trailer for James McTeigue's The Raven, the murder mystery/period thriller starring John Cusack as poet Edgar Allan Poe. Also featured prominently in this is Luke Evans, who is trying to solve murders that keep happening in the same form as describe in Poe's poems. It definitely has a dash of V for Vendetta in there, especially with this masked guy, and it's flashy, but I'm looking forward to this. I don't know if everyone will like it, but give it a chance. It also stars Alice Eve & Brendan Gleeson.

The Raven is inspired by the famous Edgar Allen Poe poem. McTeigue explained to us years ago that it's "an amalgamation of Poe's stories crossed with Se7en. It's about a serial killer loose in 1849 Baltimore." As for the actual plot, he stated that "at each murder that he does, the killer leaves a clue, and basically Poe is set against the clock to find someone before they die." The screenplay was co-written by Ben Livingston and Hannah Shakespeare. Relativity & Rogue Pictures will be distributing the film and have set a release date of March 9th, 2012 next year for The Raven, which will be here sooner than you know. How does it look?

Its the Inspector!

Patrick Bowers on Oct 7, 2011

Yeah, that was my thought as well. I'd hate to spend the twelve bucks to see it and realize I'd figured it out by watching the trailer.

Anonymous on Oct 7, 2011

I was thinking that too.

Crapola on Oct 7, 2011

Exactly the same feeling. Just after very first moments from that trailer.

Modrzew on Oct 8, 2011

yes, yes, yes, is the Inspector and he's pretty jealous, I think he was expecting share the screen with Johnny Depp instead John Cusack

C.L. DeMedeiros on Oct 11, 2011

i feel that I as well had the same feeling.

The_Kid89 on Oct 25, 2011

John Cusack is an underrated actor. I have been disappointed with the direction that his career has gone in during recent years with some of his movies not being released properly or going straight to DVD or him just choosing the wrong projects.

Amy Maguire on Oct 7, 2011

Alice Eve is really gorgeous. She's amazing. That woman is incredible.

Keyes on Oct 7, 2011

Cool.  Great atmosphere, great costumes, convincing settings, Edgar Allan Poe, John Cusack. I'm in.

JL on Oct 7, 2011

Looks like a good role for John Cusack

Marcus on Oct 7, 2011

yea i agree. its the first movie ive seen of him taking part in an older time period, so its very interesting. but i think he's a good actor.

JBrotsis on Oct 7, 2011

Reminds me of Sherlock Homes.

Bazzmosis on Oct 7, 2011

it looks better than that.

Anonymous on Oct 7, 2011

i definitely disagree. where the movie does look good, i can't imagine it being better than sherlock holmes. lets see who would you rather watch in a movie downey or cusack? enough said.

JBrotsis on Oct 7, 2011

and i have to disagree with you - i don't care for downey or cusack that much. they're ok, but not great. i also didn't think much of the SH movie........i prefer the classic interpretationof holmes. i think this movie looks like a fun period-piece/murder mystery. just my preference - both of us can certainly can have our own opinions.

Robert Downey, Jr. is actually pretty good.  If you aren't convinced of his talent, you should watch Chaplin: the Movie, A Scanner Darkly, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, etc., etc.  And pertaining to Sherlock Holmes, he's especially good.  I never had any interest in Sherlock Holmes until I saw Guy Ritchie's movie, and then I read a collection of Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories, and what I found was that RDJ is closer to Doyle's description than anything I've seen before.  I had a preconception of what the character was that kind of bored me, and that movie got me interested, and what I read was much more interesting and exciting than I thought.  The movie overall had a big budget action, buddy comedy romp feel to it, but they did a lot of things right, and casting RDJ as Sherlock was one of those things.

Sherlock homes with a dark twist. Anything Poe is awesome

A trailer is a commercial for a product (the movie).  Why do we have to watch another commercial (in this case, Toyota) before the trailer?

PeeG on Oct 7, 2011

Mine went straight through. I think getting ads is just the luck of the draw.

Teacherkid on Oct 8, 2011

CSI:Poe. Looks awful. What was wrong with doing a bio pic?

aarrrrrggghh I'm so excited!! I'm one of John's biggest fans!

cindy considine on Oct 7, 2011

did you like him in 2012? i did.

JBrotsis on Oct 7, 2011

Cheap story, lousy actors, stock score, robbed set decoration... sounds like a Roger Corman production, I´m in.

hewitt on Oct 7, 2011

it looks good, actually. am i the only one who doesn't care for John Cusack, though?

Brian on Oct 7, 2011

looks good - i'm definitely in.

Anonymous on Oct 7, 2011

Well, as a Poe fan, it will be fun to recognize the stories as they appear in the film

Bass1L on Oct 7, 2011

"Its the Inspector!" Lol my exact thoughts while watching the trailer.  What a twist! (sarcasm)

Ryanbrowne on Oct 7, 2011

Darn, I wanted a raven to say in a nasal voice. "NEVERMORE!!!". Oh well, you can't always get what you want.

Anonymous on Oct 7, 2011

Actors need to think of a new way of saying "Where is she?!!". Seems like every movie now has that line (e.g. Transformers 3)...

JBrotsis on Oct 7, 2011

I remember back in the day when the big one was "I want my family back!" Mainly with Harrison Ford 😛

Anonymous on Oct 7, 2011

wow, I love Edgar Allan Poe, I certainly not going to miss this film. I hope 2012 to be his year.

Licorne on Oct 7, 2011

You know I was a bit skeptical about this one, but it actually looks pretty darn good! 😮

Anonymous on Oct 7, 2011

just so you guys know.. it's not the inspector.. enjoy!

Hangtuah on Oct 8, 2011

Dig it. I'll see this. Is Cusack playing Poe, or is Poe playing Cusack? hmmm...

grimjob on Oct 9, 2011

I'm sure many of the comments have already said what I'm about to say... but haven't we already seen this before a couple years back?  Anyways, whoever edited the trailer needs to be fired.

lossy on Oct 9, 2011

Looks a lot better than what I was expecting, after reading some of the harsh comments from people who have already seen it.

Craig on Oct 9, 2011

Cool look! at first i want to excuse my terrible english. i`m german 😉 The atmosphere remember me Sleepy Hollow or From Hell. I´m tense to see more. But i don´t understand the lovestory to a woman! Edgar Allan Poe had so much problems in his life with his liking. Is america still prim?

Ermeli(germany) on Oct 11, 2011

Wow everything looks great, except the acting...
