Forest Whitaker & Johnny Knoxville Join Schwarzenegger's 'Last Stand'

Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to make his return to feature film (and possibly comeback role) with The Last Stand, the first English-language film from director Kim Jee-Woon (I Saw the Devil, The Good, the Bad, the Weird). The film, co-starring Harry Dean Stanton, Rodrigo Santoro, Eduardo Noriega, Luis Guzman, Zach Gilford, Peter Stormare, and Jaimie Alexander, has built up quite the impressive cast for itself thus far. But that doesn't seem to have stopped, as the production, which began shooting today, has added two more interesting names to its eclectic cast; one you might expect and one you likely never would.
Lionsgate made a few announcements today about what they are calling a "high octane chase story" to confirm the above casting details, as well as throw a few new more names in the credits. Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker and Jackass jackass-turned-actor Johnny Knoxville will get in on the action. I'll leave up to you to figure out which one was expected and which one wasn't! Not much is known about who will be playing what exactly, but here's what we do know: Schwarzenegger is set to play a former LAPD cop turned sheriff of a small border town (he reassigns himself there after a tragic event in LA) which serves as the last thing standing between the world's most notorious drug kingpin (Noriega) and freedom in Mexico after he escapes from an FBI prisoner convoy. Well, that and Schwarzenegger.
What's in store after that, according to the official synopsis, is "a specially outfitted car," "a fierce army of gang members," and "one of the most daring face-offs in cinema history." Oh yeah, and did I mention Kim Jee-Woon was directing the the film that will serve as Arnold's action comeback? Because that's all you really need to know to get excited for this. The Last Stand comes from a spec script by Andrew Knauer, was written by Jeffrey Nachmanoff (Traitor, The Day After Tomorrow). Stay tuned for more on this anticipated big screen return of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I was really disappointed with the cast but at least Forest Whitaker is in it now.

i should really be more pumped for Kim Jee-Woon's first English language film, but i'm still not convinced that this is a good idea. still, if Sly can do it... Forest Whitaker's addition could be good, too, but despite all his good roles, i can never get his 'empath' in Species out of my head (shudder). but mention Peter Stormare and Harry Dean Stanton and it's an easy sell for me. those two are outstanding.
