Back in January we learned that the producing team behind The Social Network had just picked up another real-life story to bring to the big screen from author Ben Mezrich, the same writer behind The Accidental Billionaires book that inspired the aforementioned Facebook centric drama. Sex on the Moon would focus on a young NASA intern who decides to steal lunar rocks from NASA's Johnson Space Center and sell them on the internet to impress a girl. Ah, young love! 24 Frames reports that Easy A and Friends with Benefits director Will Gluck will be at the helm of the project. Gluck will also adapt the script from Mezrich's book.
If you'd like to more about the intern in question, his name is Thad Roberts and the LA Times did a whole piece on him and the scheme he hatched with some other college students. Having had a chance to talk with this guy at Sundance, I can tell you he's charming, super intelligent, and his story will definitely make for a great movie. In addition, Will Gluck delivered a charming teenage comedy with Easy A, so much that it even has shades of John Hughes scattered throughout. It remains to be seen if Friends with Benefits can top No Strings Attached as the top fuck-buddy romantic comedy this year, but the red-band trailer was promising. Definitely looking forward to more news on this project coming up. We'll keep you updated! Sound good?
