Full Schedule for 2nd Annual Hero Complex Film Festival Announced
Back and bigger/better than ever is the Hero Complex Film Festival, running from June 9 to 11 in LA this summer. Hero Complex is the fantastic blog on the LA Times run by Geoff Boucher and last year he decided to host a mini-film fest to show some great movies with in-person Q&As featuring the director. Last year he brought Chris Nolan and Ridley Scott, this year Boucher is featuring Warren Beatty, Richard Donner, Geoff Johns and Jon Favreau. I was tipped by AICN that the full schedule for this year's fest had been revealed on the website, and in case anyone else wants to attend too, thought I'd spread the word.
On Thursday, June 9th, they're showing Dick Tracy (1990) with Warren Beatty. On Friday, June 10th, they're running a Star Trek double feature kicking things off with Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) featuring director Nicholas Meyer, then J.J. Abrams' Star Trek (2009) featuring guests Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman & Damon Lindelof. (I'm certainly not missing that!) On Saturday, June 11th, they're showing Superman (1978) and Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut (2006) featuring Richard Donner himself. And finally, on Sunday, June 12th, they'll start with a free matinee of The Incredibles, plus a double feature of Iron Man 1 & 2 with director Jon Favreau. Again, if I can say, that's quite a line-up!
Tickets are already on sale, so if you're in Los Angeles or will be able to make it down to Hollywood in early June, you'll definitely want to visit their official website to start reserving your tickets now. Although he's got a great schedule already, I have a feeling Boucher might have some surprises in store for us, but only time will tell. I attended last year's HCFF and had a blast, it was good experience, I just wish it had more of an event feel to it. It looks like they've got more sponsors and more screenings scheduled, so I can't wait to see how it expands this year. As always, all the information you need can be found on the film fest's website.
Geoff also wrote a blog announcing Warren Beatty as the opener of the 2nd Annual Hero Complex Film Fest. "The legacy of the film and Beatty’s aspirations for the property have been back in the news, which will be part of the onstage discussion following the screening of the film." As great as that sounds, I re-watched Dick Tracy last year and despised it, but I'll be at other nights. Get tickets here! Anyone else attending?
