Last year there was news in a Casting Tidbits that Katherine Heigl was going to lead a whimsical romance in the form of The Age of Adaline. At the time Andy Tennant (Hitch) was slated to helm the feature, but now someone else is stepping into the director's chair. Variety reports Gabrielle Muccino, who last worked with Will Smith on The Pursuit of Happyness and Seven Pounds, is now in talks to direct the film which is now simply titled Adaline. The story follows a young woman, born at the turn of 20th century, who is rendered ageless after an accident. After years of a solitary life, she meets a man who might be worth losing her immortality.
Apparently the film won't begin principal photography until next January. However, it's not clear if Heigl is still involved or not. I'm willing to bet the actress has moved on even though the cheesy fare seems right up her alley. Muccino has been all about touchy-feely stories though. In addition to those aforementioned Will Smith films, the director is also at the helm of Playing the Field, the story of a former professional athlete (Gerard Butler) with a weak past tries to redeem himself by coaching his son's soccer team. I won't be looking forward to Adaline with any anticipation, but plenty of girlfriends and wives out there would beg to differ. Personally, I'd rather see Passengers, a project Muccino was attached to last January, come together. What do you think?

I like the premise of 'Adaline,' nice title, too. But I'm more excited about 'Playing the Field' especially w/ Butler attached.

I read a scriptment of Passengers, and it was awesome. It is a movie that needs to happen. It is genuine old school Science Fiction. It had the flavor of Heinlein and Ben Bova. The real deal. Maybe too much so for mainstream audiences. But, the script was at the top of the Black List for unmade films and I would love to see it happen.
