German Actress Antje Traue Set to Battle Superman in 'Man of Steel'

Antje Traue

After hearing earlier this month that Michael Shannon had landed the role of General Zod in Zack Snyder's new take on Superman with Man of Steel, it was only going to be a matter of time before we heard about casting for his right hand woman, the Kryptonian vixen known as Ursa. Previously we heard that Alice Eve, Rosamund Pike and Diane Kruger might be up for the role, but apparently Warner Bros. has decided to go in a different direction. Variety reports that German actress Antje Traue will actually take the villainous role and rather than going by the name Ursa, she will actually be called Faora in this iteration. Read on!

Though comic fans will already know this information, Faora is simply an alternate name for the same character who works closely with General Zod (we've already seen her in Superman II) and has even been linked to the villain romantically in some stories. There are actually multiple versions of this female villain, and as of now it's not clear which version she will be playing. Traue previously starred alongside Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster in Pandorum, but this will undoubtedly be the actress' biggest role so far. It's interesting that they've decided to go with a relatively unknown actress for this role, but with a cast that already includes Amy Adams, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane, this movie doesn't lack star power anyway.

Great! A fresh face instead of the overused actresses. Again good casting.

As General Zod and Faora will be in Man of Steel, they have to include Non, Ursa, Quex-Ul, Nam-Ek and Aethyr-Ka.

One of the following actors will probably play Perry White: Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, John Cleese, John Goodman, Steve Martin, William Shatner, Robin Williams We should expect one of the following rising young actors to play Jimmy Olsen: Thomas Dekker, Anton Yelchin, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, Adam Brody, Emile Hirsch, Michael Cera They will probably cast Leighton Meester, Jessica Szohr or Evan Rachel Wood as Ursa.

Traue was awesome in Pandorum, and I'm sure she'll kick ass in Supes.

Snyder likes women who have been violated by men or I guess they hate men as well because of their violations, lets just say he likes wronged women, the victimized individual. This is right up his alley.

Beautiful woman! Although, I haven't seen, "Pandorum", she appears to have the right look for a sexy, sinister villain. I'm intrigued! I'm interested in seeing how this casting turns out!

She was quite good in the film--it wasn't the greatest movie ever made, but I liked watching it. This film certainly has a strong cast, and hopefully it will turn out well.

I hope the surprising, awesome and at times odd casting choices don't out shine the final product. Snyder and Superman both need a solid hit.

I do not understand why they have to keep chewing on same villains over and over again. Zod, Luthor etc. in the recent reboots. With all the CGI horse power they could go for Doomsday or something real epic.

Shige on Apr 28, 2011

Well, Shige...good point, but... "With all the CGI horse power they could go for Doomsday or something real epic." ...and watch the screaming and yelling about how all the CGI will suck, how come they didn't do the "Death of Superman" storyline, how Snyder would still f**k it up, how the design for Doomsday sucks balls...a whole bunch of moaning and groaning. The reason why they probably chose Zod and Luthor was because that those two are the best-known villains of Supe's "rouge's gallery". Granted, there are others, but let's give them the benefit of the doubt and see how this all turns out. Who knows--it might be a damned good film.

Great idea to cast an unknown, this film has serious potential, as long as Cavill can pull it off! Saw Thor last night... you poor unfortunate Americans don't get to see it until the 6th of May!! It's truly outstanding, on a par with the first Iron Man. Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston are truly outstanding as Thor and Loki. The effects are amazing, Hopkins and Portman add real credibility. Fantastic film, 5 out of 5. It's going to be huge.

Damn you! 😎 Well, I can wait another week. And it's good to see that you liked it (and ranked it right up there with IRON MAN). The film is getting a lot of positive reviews, so that could be a big help.
