'Harold & Kumar Christmas' Helmer Lands 'Final Girls' Horror Comedy
It sounds like New Line must be really pleased with director Todd Struass-Schulson and his feature directorial debut with A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas. Not only has the Warner Bros. based banner already set the filmmaker to take on their big action comedy Family Getaway, but now Variety reports he will direct a new horror comedy called Final Girls that cleverly uses the well-known horror element of The Final Girl, the last woman or girl alive to confront a film's killer. The story begins with a girl grieving the loss of her mother, a well-known scream queen of the 1980's, not unlike a young Jamie Lee Curtis. Read on!
However, in a strange twist, the girl and her friends are mysteriously sucked into the world of the mother's most famous horror movie where she is reunited with her Mom but must also face the film's diabolical killer. The film is described as Back to the Future meets Friday the 13th, but it sounds like there's some Nightmare on Elm Street thrown in too. If Strauss-Schulson's debut has shown us anything, it's that he has a great visual style and a taste for action and comedy that just works. It's also nice to have an original idea come out of the woodwork, especially one that will allow a young female driven cast to have some fun.
