Harrison Ford & Abigail Breslin - Ender's Game

The cast is now set, are you ready to go to Battle School? Variety is reporting that Harrison Ford, last seen in Cowboys & Aliens, is now "locked" and officially joining the cast of Gavin Hood's Ender's Game sci-fi adaptation, playing Colonel Hyram Graff, who's in charge of training the new recruits. In addition to Ford, young Oscar nominee Abigail Breslin (of Little Miss Sunshine, Zombieland, New Year's Eve) is joining as Valentine Wiggin, Ender Wiggin's older sister. Asa Butterfield is playing Ender and Hailee Steinfeld, both 14 years old, will play Petra, Ender's ally and trusted friend. More casting and character details below.

OddLot Entertainment is developing the adaptation of Orson Scott Card's sci-fi novel, with Gavin Hood writing/directing. Butterfield, Steinfeld, Ford and Ben Kingsley—presumably cast as Mazer Rackham—are the main cast. Abigail Breslin as Valentine, with Aramis Knight (Rendition, Crossing Over) as Bean, the smallest new recruit; Moises Arias (Rico on "Hannah Montana") as Bonzo, commander of the Salamander Army, Jimmy "Jax" Pinchak (Let Me In, "Men of a Certain Age") as Ender's older brother Peter; Suraj Parthasarathy as Alai, the first to befriend Ender; Conor Carroll (Away We Go) as Bernard, who bullies Ender; and Khylin Rhambo (Criminal Minds) as Dink, a brainy member of Rat Army; plus also Brendan Meyer (Disney's "Mr. Young", via THR) as fellow classmate Stilson, make up the diverse supporting cast.

As we already know, they're gearing up to start production on Ender's Game in New Orleans in early 2012, with production throughout early next year in advance of a March 2013 release. It looks like Gavin Hood and production partners OddLot, K/O Paper Products and Digital Domain have locked down the cast, lead by Harrison Ford and Asa Butterfield, plus Hailee Steinfeld and Sir Ben Kingsley. This is starting to sound awesome. Could you really ask for anything better than putting Han Solo/Indiana Jones and Gandhi in the long-awaited Ender's Game adaptation? Now we just hope it turns out fantastic in the end. Sound good?

Stilson is NOT a fellow recruit and Petra has a minor role in this story if either of those things are different theyve taken the first steps to ruining this adaptation. I know it is a bit of an overreaction but i dont want a goddamn thing changed

Kcoutlaws20 on Dec 21, 2011

this is called an adaptation - i know a hard concept to grasp this should not be a copy and paste job go read the book again if you want that

It says Stilson is a fellow classmate, which is true.  He's in Ender's grade school. As for Petra, her part only appears small in the book, but in Ender in Exile, Ender reveals that of all of his jeesh, her and Bean were his closest companions.

I'm not sure how this could be 100% faithful to the original - no movie is - but that's ok. I'm a huge fan of the book and I can't wait to see what they do with these actors and actresses. Super excited.

Peter Kosmal on Dec 21, 2011

I've seen titles that are 100% faithful... well minus the changing of a plaque. (see monster)

those were usually either crappy books or crappy movies. I can't think of a book/movie combo that were the same and both well done.

It would be awesome if they could file both Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow at the same time with the same cast.

Svaha on Dec 21, 2011

This would be an epic concept to take from his books to the movie theatre... a back to back showing of Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow, same story.. different point of view. I can only dream I suppose.

From what I understand they are combinding alot of enders shadow in this movie. Even Sister Carlita is in it with a  mention of Archilles.

Charles Neira on Dec 23, 2011

if you read the afterward on one of the later shadow books orson scott card actually says that is how he is planning for the movie because there is so much internal thought narration going on in the book its hard to know what the characters motives and thoughts are and to get the real feeling of ender as the empathetic amazing commander of children w/o out being corny.

Jessicagwoods on Dec 25, 2011

This is one adaptation from a story I love that I always thought would work, if only in the right hands. I'm excited. I could always visualize myself fighting in zero gravity right beside Ender.

"Which way is the enemy's gate?" "Down!" Oh man, I'm already waiting for it. I just wonder if they'll film the whole series. I've been reading all the book for some years now, I love it.

Laura Prado de Assis on Dec 21, 2011

From what Ive read, thats what they are hoping to do.(making it a series), but the folling books about Enders are lacking, but the books along the shadow series would really work nicely

Charles Neira on Dec 23, 2011

Harrison FORD? Shit just got real.

Jman571 on Dec 21, 2011

I wonder how they'll do the desk game... with the giant, you know? Hmm... And if they'll work Jane in somehow, or continue the series and the Shadow series. The possibilities are endless. I cannot wait for this movie!

Roni Lubofsky on Dec 22, 2011

Holy crap, they're actually going through with this movie? I'd heard thabout this years ago but I thought they had cancelled it

Jhridder on Dec 22, 2011

OSC is the one responsible (for the most part) for it's delay, he's been quoted many times saying that he doesn't want to see it made into a movie without the right director & script. The fact that most of the book's dialogue takes place within Ender's head makes for difficult scripting. So excited!

Hamster on Dec 22, 2011

This is a movie that needs to be at least a two-parter, ala the recent Harry Potter and Twilight movies.

Matthew D. Groves on Dec 22, 2011

Please, oh please, don't screw this up!!  Ender's Game is one of THE most definitive SF novels ever written, so there's a LOT of pressure, I'm sure.  If they don't make it close to 3 hours in length, they're going to miss a TON of important bits.
