Both of the Snow White projects seem to be pushing ahead at full speed. THR reports that Universal's new project, Snow White and Huntsman has gained another cast member in addition to Kristen Stewart as Snow White, Charlize Theron as her evil stepmother, and Chris Hemsworth as the "huntsman" who trains her to fight. Veteran actor Ian McShane, last seen as Blackbeard in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, has been cast in the movie as Caesar, the leader of the dwarfs. He's only the first of the dwarfs for this film to be cast, so if things keep moving along, expect to hear a lot more casting news coming up soon.
Snow White and Huntsman is a brand new "revisionist take" on the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale where the huntsman this time, Hemsworth, becomes Snow White's protector and mentor. It's scheduled to start shooting in August, with a release date in the middle of next summer, on June 1st, 2012. At the helm is newcomer Rupert Sanders, a commercial director making his feature debut. He's working from a screenplay by Hossein Amini and Evan Daugherty. McShane's dwarf character Caesar is describe as "the eldest, with the longest beard" and word is they'll by using effects to make them look small. Both Snow White projects sound intriguing, but I really need to see something to be convinced either one is worth getting exciting for.

Loved Ian McShane in HBO's Deadwood. Still have the strong urge to flip off HBO for canceling that amazing series. The director R.Sanders and casting of Hemsworth made me interested but Ian's casting sealed the deal. Snow white and the huntsman is the one for me. I hate that the other snow white is being softened up into a comedy. I most definitely prefer snow white and the huntsman, they are keeping the dark element of the Brothers Grimm source material.

great cast so far, the only weakness being stewart, and thats not even that bad. mcshane is a great actor and will give a lot of character to the elder dwarf. i have high hopes for this movie. my hopes on the other 6 dwarfs... -billy boyd -gary oldman -gary sinise -jeremy irons -alan rickman -pierce brosnan the most EPIC team of dwarfs ever.

There is literally no one better at swearing than Ian McShane. He can shout cocksucker like Hitchcock directed thrillers. Also an expert at dropping the c-bomb, he puts such venom into it.

Great choice! Ian McShane has quickly become one of my favorite actors since I noticed him in the Statham flick, "Death Race". I'm so glad to see him being cast in another potential blockbuster!
