Ice Cube

Jonah Hill has been attached to star in the project since he was revealed to be writing it back in 2008, and Channing Tatum signed on back in November. Now Deadline has word that the big screen adaptation of the TV series 21 Jump Street has also landed Ice Cube in a story of undercover police officers who infiltrate a high school to fight drugs and crime. Cube will actually be playing their precinct captain, a role originally played by Steven Williams in the series. Phil Lord and Chris Miller (directors of the fantastic Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) are directing this adaptation which Hill has said is going for a pretty hard R rating.

The project is supposed to start shooting in April after Cube finishes his role in New Year's Eve. In addition, Cube is in the middle of prepping his next directing gig in the form of Chrome and Paint, a film described as a Boyz N the Hood-esque drama which he'll also star in. Apparently that film is set within the subculture of tricked out low riders, Mercedes and BMW's and highlights temptation and materialism amongst the car owners and drivers. Sounds like both projects will give Cube an opportunity to step up his acting game a bit. We'll keep you updated on any news about 21 Jump Street and other Ice Cube projects. Any fans of Cube?

More and more this is looking, to me, like High School High except played totally serious (Tatumbot's only setting). They should get Jon Lovitz to play a crack dealer.

The more news I hear about this project, the worse it gets. Tatum and Hill look nothing like high school students. It will be a miracle if it does any justice to the show.
