Inception / Saturn Awards

With the 83rd Academy Awards gearing up for the star-studded ceremony this Sunday on ABC, what better time to highlight some awards that aim to honor the best in genre entertainment. That's what The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films has done since 1972 with The Saturn Awards. After noted film historian Dr. Donald Reed decided to honor the best in genre entertainment, the SFFHF Academy has since expanded to include other movie genres as well. This year, Chris Nolan's Inception leads the pack with a whopping nine nominations including Best Science Fiction Film. See the full list of nominees below!

It seems kind of strange that films like Never Let Me Go and Black Swan are included in the Saturn Awards, but that doesn't mean they aren't deserving of some love. In addition it's great to see Tron: Legacy get some love for Daft Punk's stellar soundtrack and the amazing effects that made the film a visual feast, especially in IMAX theaters. Shutter Island also has a strong presence which is great considering the Oscars pretty much ignored the film. Personally, I wish Scott Pilgrim vs. the World got some more love since the film is pretty much made for these kinds of awards, but oh well. What do you think of the nominees?

Can't believe what I'm seeing! Did Splice get 2 noms? How incredible is that?!! The film is great and maybe (maybe!) a bit underrated.
