"Hey Captain Spock!" I thought it would only be fitting considering this week is Comic-Con that I feature a rather geeky trailer (via Collider/YouTube) for an indie documentary premiering on EPIX. It's called The Captains and it is indeed directed by William Shatner and it looks at the various actors who have played Captains in the Star Trek franchise - from Chris Pine to Scott Bakula to Patrick Stewart, and of course Shatner himself. It looks fun and funny, and honestly, I do want to watch this (but I'll be at Comic-Con all week!). It's premiering online and at the Con, so you can catch it anywhere. Here's one of the trailers for it.
Watch one of the TV spots for William Shatner's documentary The Captains from YouTube:
In The Captains, Shatner travels the world to connect with each of the actors who have played Captains over the long life of the Star Trek franchise. He recalls his own experiences in the role that made him a star by interviewing Patrick Stewart, Kate Mulgrew, Scott Bakula, Avery Brooks and Chris Pine while interweaving clips from their respective shows and movies. The Captains is produced and directed by William Shatner, who played Captain James T. Kirk from 1966 to 1969 on Star Trek: The Original Series. The documentary was developed by EPIX and will be broadcast online via EPIX the same day as the panel at Comic-Con later this week. If you're interested, go to the official EPIX website or just watch on July 22nd.
