James McTeigue Set to Direct New Thriller 'Message from the King'
Though his last film Ninja Assassin may have had some killer action, director James McTeigue didn't exactly deliver a home run. Of course, I still have faith in the V for Vendetta helmer, and now have my sights set on his new project. Deadline reports FimNation Entertainment has set the filmmaker to direct Message from the King, a new thriller from Unknown writers Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell. The film follows Jacob King, an enigmatic outsider who comes to LA to investigate the sudden disappearance of his sister. Sounds pretty generic if you ask me, but at least the action in Unknown made for some decent fun.
As for McTeigue, he just finished working with John Cusack on The Raven, a period thriller with the star playing Edgar Allen Poe. FilmNation is also behind that film, and apparently they like working with the director as company head Aaron Ryder says, "After working with James on The Raven and then seeing a cut of the film, it was very clear to us that we needed to make his next movie." Hopefully the story has some decent set pieces and interesting twists and turns, otherwise the story just sounds like every other kidnapping-based thriller that hits theaters at least once every year.
