James Newton Howard Set to Compose the 'Green Lantern' Score

We've already seen the first trailer for DC Comics' adaptation of Green Lantern along with photos of other Green Lantern Corps. members like Tomar-Re, and some of you just aren't pleased. Though it may not curb your skepticism, perhaps you can at least be pleased with the news of who'll be composing the score for the summer superhero blockbuster. Film Score Reporter (via The Playlist) has confirmed that James Newton Howard, the man who has worked with Hans Zimmer on the scores for The Dark Knight and Batman Begins and most recently scored The Green Hornet, will now be behind the music of Green Lantern.
Hopefully Newton's musical expertise will be able to help the tone of the film stay consistent throughout, a problem that the trailer wasn't able to over come as it jumped from Fantastic Four levels of humor to dark, dramatic comic book mythology. While still looking forward to this comic book adaptation, I'm keeping my hype in check for the time being. DC Comics and Warner Bros. still have quite and uphill battle to make more people aware of Green Lantern, and prove to those already anticipating the film that Ryan Reynolds' CG superhero suit and mask won't look like they were created in Microsoft Paint. Thoughts?

JNH score in The Last Airbender was great, unfortunately that movie scarred me for life and if I heard the music I would cry due to the waste of a great score.

James Newton Howard = success He's a gifted composer; we can rest assured that the score won't be the worst part of this movie... maybe the best? ;))

Is it weird that theyre finally getting a composer to work on this? I'd've thought they'd've had someone working on it by now for a movie about 5 months away.

This is usual the process. Most composers are only given 4-8 weeks to score a film. Besides, James has been attached to the project for a while. It's only now official.

Great choice! I sure hope he creates a unique and memorable score that will leave an indelible impression and enhance the flick.... like John Williams does!

More fanboy crap criticism. Why can't you naysayers accept the fact that there are many Green Lantern fans who LIKED the first trailer, don't have a problem with the CGI suit, and think Ryan Reynolds works well as Hal Jordan?

James is perfect for this motion picture. He was great in Dying Young which moved a lot of people in tears...

I hoped that both Green superhero scores would be put on an album or something.
