Jim Carrey Hinting at 'Dumb & Dumber' and 'Bruce Almighty' Sequels

Jim Carrey in Dumb & Dumber

"Well suck me sideways!" Actor Jim Carrey is still on a roll with comedies, with Mr. Popper's Penguins set to hit theaters this month and likely make a boatload at the box office. But word is he may revisit some old characters from 1994/2003 in potential sequels. Unlike the trouble Ben Stiller's had in getting Zoolander 2 ready, Carrey recently told ComingSoon that new sequels to Dumb & Dumber and Bruce Almighty are already in the works, but there's nothing major to report on yet. Though each film got its own pseudo-sequel already (the former's being a crappy prequel), the originals are still the fan-favorites. Read on for his quote.

"We're talking about maybe returning to some old characters that everyone has been asking about," Carrey teased when asked what he might follow Penguins with, "…There's 'Bruce Almighty' and we're talking about maybe another 'Dumb and Dumber.'"

That's all he says, which isn't much, so we'll have to wait to hear about how far into development either of them are. However, SlashFilm links to a quote from Bobby Farrelly earlier this year on Moviehole, where he talks about a Dumb & Dumber sequel: "If we could get those two guys back together, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels that might be a worthwhile sequel – and that ball is in motion. We're starting to think about what those two dimwits would be doing twenty-years later in life, and hopefully we'll be able to come up with something worthy of a sequel." We'll keep you guys in the loop. Does anyone want more sequels?

Ace Ventura 3D... I think I would be throwing up more than just a little bit. Not due to quality, it's just Jim would definitely take advantage of the "gag" possibilities with 3D.

But Carrey almost never reprises his roles for sequels. I doubt this will happen, nor would I ever really be interested in either of those potential projects.

I think he wants to do it. Lloyd Christmas is an excellent character.

Um, he did reprise his role for Ace Ventura 2.

What would really be the point of Jium Carrey in a Bruce Almighty sequel? His character in the origonal already kinda learned what he had to....i feel like his story has kinda already been told? what would the story be, does he get God powers again and have to learn to use them...again? I'm just not sure where they would be going with that...

Maybe God gives Bruce only some of His power and team up to hunt down original storylines for future films...and aliens, of course.

Yes, these sequels, would be awesome! I sure hope they don't force the comedy(and fail) like, "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls"(such a disaster) AND they get Jeff Daniels back.  As for "Mr Popper's Penguins", it appears Carrey has a hit on his hands, judging by the laughter during the trailer before, "X-Men: First Class"! The world could use a Jim Carrey renaissance!

Maybe it's me but it didn't look funny. It looked like all the other children's films he's been doing, which is fine. That kind of funny is good for kids and family but I need to see another Lloyd Christmas or Ace Ventura or even another Fletcher Reed. (I left I Love You Phillip Morris out because I haven't seen it but I've heard good things)

I'm all for sequels to both of these, but especially Dumb and Dumber.  I just watched that with someone who had never seen it before the other day, and what I remember to be hilarious back in 94 (I think) isn't as funny to someone who hasn't seen the movie today.  Comedy has changed quite a bit in 15 years, and as much as I'd like to be ignorant and naive and say that Dumb and Dumber is, and always will be funny....it won't.  It's heading into classic comedy territory with films like Fletch and Blues Brothers where it's only funny to those who grew up with the films, and to a select few today who can still relate to humor from that period of time. (I use those two films as an example because I was always told they were hilarious can't miss comedies, but never really found them to be more than just a bit amusing.  But they were made when I was a kid, and when I watched them 10 years later....I was used to a different brand of comedy.  Much like people today are) Ok, with all of that said.  I'd love to see Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels in those roles with the Farrely Brothers directing using today's standard of comedy....which I'd say the comedy standard right now is set by "The Hangover" or anything Judd Apatow has touched.  Take that breed of comedy and mix it with Carrey's new school breed of slapstick and if the sequel is done right....I think a new era of comedy all together could be born.

love to see Carrey in another Ace Ventura, Mask or Dumb and Dumber. Bruce Almighty isn't on my list though

I'd just like to state, that for the record, there was an Ace Venutra 3 (Ace Ventura: Pet Detective Jr.). No I didn't watch it, and don't want to. To all The Mask fans: Son of the Mask, starring Jamie Kennedy. I did watch this one, and no I didn't vomit. Finally, to Derek Richardson and Eric Christian Olsen: You two did a perfect job of re-creating Harry and Lloyd, which is no small task considering who's shoes you were stepping into. I don't care how far into the future, or whatever plot device is used for a sequel, you guys definitely deserve to be included in the mix. Even if it's a cameo to please your fans, which I'm sure is at least 3 (me, Jim and Jeff).

I agree with you on the Dumb and Dumberer prequel.  Eric Christian Olsen in particular is a highly overlooked talent.  He's been hilarious in everything I've ever seen him in and I was shocked at how well he stepped in and filled Jim Carrey's role in that film.

If there was a sequel to any Jim Carrey movie I'd love it to be The Truman Show. I'd love to know what Truman thinks of the real world.

I read Jim especially said they wont make D&D sequel. wtf is this now??

The Return of the Mask would be pretty sweet, along with Ace Ventura 3. Bruce Almighty 2 doesn't make sense though, he learned his lesson

I'm all for it but wasn't Jim the guy who said he won't do sequels cause he rather not play the same character twice and now hes thiniing to reprise two big characters in the near future I mean Im glad REALLY 😀 But whats the sudden change og heart

Martontimothy91 on Oct 3, 2011

i would like to see those sequels also but i would really like to see his reprise his role as the mask
