I really wish I was able to clearly see the beginning of the trailer with the white apes coming out of the ground, but it looks great, I can't wait to see it on here in HD tomorrow!

Now beevis....how about waiting to see if the completed film is good or not. That said...I understand what you mean. After all, it's not as if a lot of people (even film geeks, sadly) know that this film is based on a novel written nearly 100 years ago, and that they've been trying to make this film for years...but hey, give this link a look: http://www.tarzan.org/barsoom.html And also, Frank Frazetta's classic cover for the reissue in the 1960s-1970s: http://www.gfilotto.com/category/books Hope this helps.

thanks for the info. i didn't know the novel was written 100 years ago! the reasons i didn't like this (based on the trailer) are : bad acting; bad dialogue; horrible sets and costumes.........there just wasn't anything that seemed to be done very well.

Understood, beevis (and you're very welcome! Hope it helps)...those are honest concerns. Just remember that it's only a trailer, so.... That said, the original novel, while very good, was a "pulp" science fiction story...and the writing style was a lot different, including the dialogue. If you are interested in the novels, especially the first one, you can still find collected editions, and next year should see a re-release of all of them.

I´t looks horrible and with a quite cliche story. We are in 2011, please!

"...and with a quite cliche story." I'm sorry, but are you REALLY saying something that dense? Look, why not try to do some research--this is based on a series of novels, with the first one having been published nearly 100 years ago. Cliche story my ass...more like an original story that's been mined and cribbed by numerous SF writers and film directors for nearly a century.

Can you say "Avatar"?

Can you say, "based on a book that came out decades before AVATAR?"
Anonymous on Dec 1, 2011

Can you say "Hurka durk this is a movie not a book?" If someone unearthed a 200 year old book that followed the same storyline as Star Wars and made a movie out of it, would you still flock to it like a moth? Of course you would.

I don't know...I watched that trailer and I was reminded of Phantom Menace. That's a bad sign, right?
MithunOnThe.Net on Nov 30, 2011

Hmm...well, it isn't but you should do some research on the book that the film is based on--a book that was written around a century ago, and that's waaaayyyy before TPM hit theaters. Let's put it this way--there have been popular movies (including AVATAR) that have mined elements from the novel A PRINCESS OF MARS. Hell, even James Cameron said that he was influenced by that novel and the other "John Carter of Mars" novels. And then there's the Marvel comics from the 1970s. I mean, this has been around for a long, long time. Just sayin'. And just to be on the safe side, check these: http://www.tarzan.org/barsoom.html http://io9.com/5127107/john-carter-of-mars-gets-the-barbarella-treatment

Wow! You people are still traumatized by 'The Phantom Menace' and comparing it to this trailer! Such pussys! Go back to your Tea Party with your retarded rants! And let me sit peace and quiet and enjoy what looks like a potential "classic Star Wars" type space saga. I'm not saying it's gonna be better than Star Wars but it's about time we see another great popcorn space flick.
Billy Manthy on Nov 30, 2011

Bill, if they can't move past the "it looks like TPM" nonsense then you're wasting your time. And just a reminder--this film is based on a novel that was first published in 1912 and written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the creator of Tarzan--and that's quite a few years before TPM, ATOC, AVATAR, and all the other films that people are accusing this film of stealing from. I'm also not sure if it will be better than STAR WARS--but you know what? They've been trying to make this film for years--and now it's actually coming out. And if it puts attention back on ERB and these books, that will be nice.

How many movies have used this generic theme song and turned out good? Just curious.. any?
Kaim on Nov 30, 2011
25
The "generic song" sounds a bit like Led Zepplin's "Kashmir". And a trailer's music does not--hell, should not--determine whether a film will be good or not. Just sayin'.

Scopedog, I gotta disagree with U here and above comments.. The point of a trailer should be to give U an idea of what to expect of the full movie. So in essence a quick look at the product you plan to pay for. If we cant judge a trailer, then what is the point ? Having said that, Kaim does have a point, the same song ( or remake by PuffNoTalentHack) was used for the American version of Godzilla... and we all know how that turned out.
Tester on Nov 30, 2011
27
Agreed, Tester...but a small clarification--the song by P--well whatever the heck he goes by now--was used at the END of the 1998 G film. But the song wasn't the reason why the film was bad! And I hear you about "If we cant judge a trailer, then what is the point ?". It's a solid, honest concern. It's just that over the years I've made the error of dismissing an excellent film because it had a crappy trailer, and seeing crappy films that had excellent trailers. But...how about we wait and see if the finished film is good or not?

Trailer was def better and it shows how much different it can feel with good, original music. I saw 2 speech scenes so for me its off the list....

I Loved the books, hope they do a great job with this like was done with the Lord of the Rings. Hoping this is the first of the 3 parts and not some kind of combination of ERB's first 3 books. Trailer is interesting so I am hopeful that they will do justice to the story.
