Over the past few years, the incomparable John Lithgow has taken on some great roles in the Showtime series "Dexter," not to mention this year's turn in Rise of the Planet of the Apes and a forthcoming appearance in New Year's Eve. Now Lithgow teaming up with some comedy giants as Variety reports the "3rd Rock from the Sun" star has taken a role in Dog Fight, the political comedy from director Jay Roach following Zach Galifianakis and Will Ferrell as two rival politicians running for a congressional seat in a small North Carolina district election. However, it's not clear what specific role Lithgow will be taking.
Since Brian Cox has already been slated to play Galifianakis' father in the film, it'd be great if Lithgow played Ferrell's father. Either way, this comedy has quite a cast coming together with Jason Sudeikis and Dylan McDermott also lined up to star in the film written by frequent Ferrell collaborator Chris Henchy and Shawn Harwell. Ferrell is also producing along with Adam McKay through their Gary Sanchez production banner along with Roach's Everyman Pictures and Galifianakis as well. Lithgow will also be seen in Judd Apatow's This is Forty next December, so there should be plenty of laughs coming from him next year.
