Johnny Depp

It's been almost three years since we first heard Jonah Hill would be writing a big screen adaptation of the 80's TV series 21 Jump Street. Since then the project has come together with Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller directing and a cast that includes Hill, Channing Tatum, Ice Cube, Rob Riggle (The Other Guys), Alison Brie ("Community") and more. Now the long rumored but expected cameo from A-list actor and original series star Johnny Depp has been confirmed. ComingSoon reports that we will indeed see Depp on screen in some sort of small cameo when the film hits theaters 2012.

The series, which ran from 1987 to 1991 on Fox for a total of 103 episodes, centered on a group of young cops whose youthful appearance allowed them to work undercover in high schools and colleges and search out troubled kids. Depp starred in the TV series as Officer Tom Hanson, who was assigned to "an elite squad of young undercover cops." I'd be willing to bet that Depp's character will still be around the police precinct where Hill and Tatum work and his role will be a very brief appearance. Meanwhile Cube is playing the police chief, Brie the female lead, and Riggle the film's villain. Sound good?

I think cameo's are more effective when the audience isn't expecting it. Oh well.

LOL. Didn't he swear he would never have anything to do with the series again? Oh well, I guess people "mellow" with age.
