Katie Aselton to Direct 'Black Rock' from Indie Scribe Mark Duplass

Though he's previously delivered indie favorites like Baghead and Cyrus, writer Mark Duplass is next delivering a film called Black Rock that is being called an all-girl thriller. The Freebie director Katie Aselton is set to be at the helm of the feature which has Kate Bosworth and Lake Bell attached to star in the story of three childhood friends who embark on a weekend getaway to the isolated island of Black Rock, only to discover that they are not alone. While it sounds like a generic thriller, coming from a writer like Duplass, I'm more than intrigued to see what his unique style on the page can bring to this kind of film.
Aselton said in a press release, "I grew up watching classic suspense films and have long had the idea of making a girl-based thriller where the threat to the characters is very real, and the audience is left with the terrifying thought ‘this could happen to me.' Exploring that kind of movie excites me as a filmmaker, and I am elated to have Lake Bell and Kate Bosworth alongside me on the journey.” In the spirit of independent film, the producers of Black Rock have also started a Kickstarter campaign in order to crowd-source a portion of funding for the film. So if you're a fan of Duplass, Aselton, Bosworth or Bell, feel free to send some money their way to help get this movie made. Sound good?
