Kevin Costner is Next to Join Quentin Tarantino's 'Django Unchained'
More big names for Quentin Tarantino's new spaghetti Western. Deadline is reporting that Oscar winning engineer/environmentalist/inventor and actor Kevin Costner has joined the cast of Tarantino's Django Unchained, which is already set to star Jamie Foxx as Django, as well as Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz, Samuel Jackson and potentially Kerry Washington. Costner is currently "in negotiations" to play Ace Woody, the right-hand man of plantation/slave-owner Calvin Candie, DiCaprio's character. A bit odd to see Costner appearing as DiCaprio's henchman, but that's why I love Tarantino's unique casting for this movie.
At the moment, Kevin Costner is gearing up to play Jonathan 'Pa' Kent in Zack Snyder's Superman: Man of Steel, but Deadline says he's jumping into Django Unchained as soon as he finishes that. I haven't read the script myself, but they say "the roles that DiCaprio and Costner will play are every bit as sadistic as the one that Waltz played in Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds." I wouldn't expect anything less from Tarantino, which is exactly why I'm so intrigued by this casting, by putting two known/loved actors into sadistic roles. For more on Django Unchained, jump to our original post. We'll continue to keep an eye out for casting.

I can totally buy Costner in this role. Not what I was imagining, but it works. The day we get the first teaser for this will be a great day.

Hearing no Will Smith made my day!

Don't actors' contracts say they can't open 2 movies close to each other, because the studios don't want their films to split the star's audience like that? Does this mean Cosnter was released from MOS or that MOS will fold?

Depends on the actor. Someone like Will Smith that is the case!

Costner doesn't lead any of the films.

This is the type of casting you make up when you're drinking with your movie buff buddies. Total boner-city. Teaser please.

Great move putting Costner in this role. He was a badass as Duvall's gunhand in Open Range.

This is a plum role for Costner-if, indeed, he signs on! If he taps into his 'Charlie Waite' character from "Open Range", he will ROCK. He might even steal the flick from DiCaprio/Foxx. All in all, I'm glad to see Costner getting more roles.

I agree Spider, Costner was great in Open Range! But I heard somewhere Sam Jackson was supposed to be DiCaprio's right hand man? And is I thought this movie was supposed to be a western? Now it seems like it's a reboot of the Mandingo movie from the 70's!lol
