Kristen Wiig Producing and Starring in Her Passion Project 'Imogene'
After leading this summer's breakout comedy hit Bridesmaids, "Saturday Night Live" cast member Kristen Wiig is moving on to a project very close to her heart. THR reports the actress has finally lined up her passion project Imogene for an August production start, and she'll not only be producing but starring as the title character as well. The Playlist first reported on this project last year, but now a solid date start in New York City is set for the story of a moderately successful New York playwright who fakes a suicide attempt in order to win back her ex-boyfriend, only to be under the custody of her mother, a gambler.
Cinema Verite directors Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini will be at the helm of the film and producers Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler are making the film the first project from their new Maven production banner. The duo says, "Imogene has every element we were looking for: strong writing, remarkable directing talent, a movie star we believe in, a New York setting, and commercial appeal. This exemplifies all the key elements of our vision for Maven's future slate." If it can capture the same energy and comedic magic with heart that Bridesmaids exemplified, then Wiig could have another hit on her hands. We'll definitely keep you updated on this.
