Hunger Games / Taylor Swift Song

After that spectacular trailer for The Hunger Games, the excitement for fans of Suzanne Collins' best-selling young adult novel should be pretty high. We won't get a new trailer before the end of the year, but in the meantime, there's a bit of a holiday treat to hold everyone over. On Twitter last night, recording artist Taylor Swift revealed a new song called Safe and Sound which she recorded with The Civil Wars and will be on The Hunger Games soundtrack. It's a touching and even haunting tune that captures the harrowing spirit of both the story and main character Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence). Hear it below!

Here's the new tune from The Hunger Games soundtrack which you can buy on iTunes:

Jennifer Lawrence stars as Katniss, a 16-year-old living in the post-apocalyptic country of Panem. Every year, one boy and one girl are chosen from each of Panem's 12 districts to fight each other to their death. Josh Hutcherson plays Peeta, the boy chosen from District 12 for the Hunger Games with Katniss.

The Hunger Games is both written and directed by Oscar nominated filmmaker Gary Ross, director of Seabiscuit and Pleasantville previously, but also writer of Big, Mr. Baseball, Dave, Lassie, Pleasantville and Seabiscuit. It's adapted from Suzanne Collins' popular series of novels, first published in 2008. Lionsgate is bringing Hunger Games to theaters everywhere March 23rd, 2012. May the odds be ever in your favor.

Brilliant. Not a Taylor Swift fan but this fits the books so well. I can't wait to hear how it fits in the movie.

How many people think this song (or at least a few lines of it) will be played in the cave scene with Peeta?  I don't know, it seems to have a feel for that particular place in the book.

I think this song would be good for when they kill Rue

you gotta spoiler alert that.

Rue doesn't die, he was kidding. Bruce Willis turns out to be a ghost, though. I did not see that coming.

Civil Wars are great.  Barton Hallow is a great song.  Has this sort of feel to it.

The trailer was great, and this song isn't bad either. It should make for a great movie.

I hope the Civil Wars get their own song and not just sing back-up. Oh, well. Good song, though.

Probably the only song I've ever liked by Taylor. Thank God its for a project that I'm 100% behind. blog: podcast:

If you like the song but not necessarily Taylor, then you might just love this cover of the song from YOuTube:
