Beatles / Doctor Who time machine

Back in November of 2009 we heard that actor Jason Lee (The Incredibles, Dogma) was looking to make his feature directorial debut with Get Back, a story about two music-obsessed friends who time travel to 1966 London to prevent John Lennon from meeting Yoko Ono, who they blame for the break-up of the Fab Four. But things get complicated when one of the guys gets caught up in a love triangle between the infamous lovers. However, Variety now reports Mark Waters (who is currently shooting Mr. Popper's Penguins with Jim Carrey) will now direct this promising time travel comedy featuring British imported band The Beatles.

The script appeared on the 2007 Black List, and while the project sounds like a great idea, I'm wondering if producers will need to secure likeness rights for the Fab Four. Obviously since this film is about breaking up John Lennon and Yoko Ono, and blaming their relationship for the break-up of the band, I'm willing to bet they might not be so cooperative. With Lennon dead, Ono is probably the one holding the rights to Lennon's likeness, sot that might be an issue. In addition, Mark Waters hasn't always made the best films (Spiderwick Chronicles, Ghost of Girlfriends Past), but he's made some charming family fare (Freaky Friday remake). I'll keep my excitement in check until we hear more. What do you think?

It's still in the works - Robert Zemeckis is working on it now. I think it's scheduled for early 2012 because it's all CGI and they have to render a lot of it throughout this year.

Okay, let's see what we got here. A movie about The Beatles that wil piss off the remaining Beatles as well as Yoko and George Harrison's family, no Beatle music and they won't even be allowed to have actors who look like them. And Jason Lee feels that this is a good idea for a movie because?

In one way its a funny idea,But its a disrespectful of John Lennon.Lets ask him(if we could) how would you feel about a movie about where you dont get to meet the true love of your life, and oh yeah, sorry Sean Lennon you dont get to be born.I dont think he'd approve let alone Yoko. Sorry, this idea is best saved for the water cooler/bloggers only.
