Max Irons Signing Up for Andrew Niccol's Adaptation of 'The Host'
by Ethan Anderton
November 10, 2011
Just yesterday Percy Jackson and the Olympians star Jake Abel signed on for one of two lead male roles in the adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's novel The Host, a sci-fi departure from her vampire fare. A few actors were in the running like Liam Hemsworth, Kit Harrington and Jai Courtney and Max Irons (Red Riding Hood) for the other role and now the EW reports Irons will play Jared Howe, a character whom Melanie Stryder (Saoirse Ronan) falls in love with before she's captured by the Souls and implanted by one called Wanderer, one of the more infamous of the species because she has attached herself to so many "hosts."
The film focuses on an alien invasion of parasites who take over human bodies by fusing to each person's consciousness and systematically erase their personalities. However, Melanie is relentless in her resistance to Wanderer and refuses to surrender her consciousness. In this struggle the alien apparently becomes overwhelmed by Melanie's memories and emotions and ends up reconnecting with the girl's old life. Abel's character Ian falls in love with Wanderer though she's inside Melanie's body, so that makes for a weird romance. Filming begins in February, and it'd be nice if Niccol could make a decent adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's writing that we've yet to see from The Twilight Saga film series.

I keep thinking The Host you are talking about is the quality Korean monster flick from a few years back, not a derivative sci-fi Stephany Meyer's book.

This book is one of my all time favorites. I was very hesitant to read it because of the Twilight franchise, but it was just fantastic. I'm excited and also nervous to see what they'll do with the movie.
