'Megamind' Writers to Give 'Madagascar' Penguins Their Own Movie
In case you didn't get enough of the mischievous Antarctic birds in the Madagascar films, THR reports DreamWorks Animation is putting together a feature film just for the penguins. Alan J. Schoolcraft and Brent Simons, the writers who brought Megamind to life, will script the project following the schemes and exploits of Skipper, Kowalski, Private and Rico (yes, they have names). The characters have easily been the best parts of the Madagascar films and they've already been given a Christmas special in the form of "The Madagascar Penguins in a Christmas Caper" and a show on Nickelodeon aptly titled "The Penguins of Madagascar."
At this point no director is attached, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone who's been working on the Madagascar films for years steps up to the plate. For now Schoolcraft and Simon are the only ones set to develop the story and write the script, but likely a hot property like this from a familiar franchise will assemble a team rather quickly. I can't say I'm thrilled with more unoriginal projects coming out of the DreamWorks Animation camp, but plenty of families will be more than pleased with the news. How about you?

Love this. Didn't even like the Madagascar movies, but I love them, and their television show. This is awesome news.

We killed 'em and ate their livers! For that line alone the penguins should have a film of their own. But I'm not sure if it's going to work out because they fit better on a secondary plan, alongside the central plot, not as main characters. It's the same thing that is going on with puss in boots.

This is awesome.....I've been waiting for the Penguins to star from the very first Madagascar movie! I've never liked the movies much, but the series is excellent. They simply must, MUST include Julien though, and I think they will. I'm a bit apprehensive about different writers being hired, but hopefully they'll work closely with the actual crew on the show, and not deviate from the series. The series is just so well written and has such immense charm, that it would be such a shame to trade that in for some supposedly high end script from someone who's just thinking about the $ in it. It would be best if the two producers of the show were to write the script, but hopefully they'll at least co-write. It would be nice if they would keep the characters series voices tpp, and not their movie voices, but that's probably not going to happen, seeing big studios' obsessions with having celeb voices. Really hope they include series-only characters like Marlene as well.
