Great news for the latest upcoming project from director Louis Leterrier (Unleashed, Transporter 2, The Incredible Hulk). Variety is reporting today that rising French actress Melanie Laurent, who broke out in Inglourious Basterds, is now "in negotiations" (read as: has been cast) as the female lead in Summit's Now You See Me. She will star opposite Jesse Eisenberg in the story of a group of illusionists and magicians who pull off bank heists during their performances and shower money on the audience. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are producing, with a screenplay by Boaz Yakin and Edward Ricourt. Glad to see her join this!
Now You See Me is one of those projects on the horizon that I'm just going crazy over because the concept is making me incredibly excited (I love magicians and heists). I also totally love Melanie Laurent, she's just so quirky and odd, yet adorable and… French, all at the same time, which after spending time in Cannes for three years in a row, I've got a little knack for. Laurent has been popping up in indies like The Concert and Beginners, but I'm so happy to see her land a major lead in a Hollywood production, as she won this over the likes of Olivia Wilde. Summit Entertainment is developing Now You See Me to start shooting this year.
