MGM Officially Announces November 2012 Return of James Bond!

January 11, 2011

James Bond

After hearing that the unfortunately delayed next installment of James Bond was being halted by MGM's financial woes, good news came in the form of a plan for Agent 007 to return in November 2012. While red tape and rumblings of halted pre-production had recently created skepticism about hitting that mark, today MGM officially announced (via press release) that James Bond will return to theaters on November 9th, 2012. And if that wasn't enough good news, Daniel Craig is confirmed to reprise his role on Her Majesty's Secret Service and Sam Mendes will still be at the helm of this 23rd installment of the ever-growing James Bond franchise. Hell yes!

One thing's for sure, Craig is going to be very busy over the next few years since he is also signed for the American adaptation of all three installments of Steig Larsson's Millennium Trilogy which begins with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo currently in production. Take that into account with MGM's plans for one Bond movie every two years and Craig's got a busy schedule.

Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan are behind the screenplay, and while we don't have any details yet, that surely won't stop Bond's biggest fans from getting excited. The film is still simply being referred to as Bond 23, and we'll be eagerly awaiting the official title sometime down the road. Personally, I can't wait to finally see Sam Mendes take on 007. Craig has just done a phenomenal job as Bond, and thinking back to Mendes work with him on Road to Perdition, I already can't wait to see what these two do will do with this franchise. We'll continue to keep you guys updated on the next one! Excited?

Okay MGM, you wanna save this franchise? Two words: CHRISTOPHER NOLAN!!!!!!

F Leiter on Jan 11, 2011

They already "saved" the franchise with Martin Campbell and CASINO ROYALE. Besides, Nolan's already done his own Bond film, showcasing a hero with a lot of cool gadgets. Ever heard of them? They were BATMAN BEGINS and THE DARK KNIGHT. Oh, and he's going to do a third one too. Please...I mean, Nolan is a great director and all, but tone down the slobbering for him, m'kay?

Marc McKenzie on Jan 12, 2011

Good news indeed.

Guest on Jan 11, 2011

F Leiter, you must be a jackass to think Nolan's gunna do a Bond flick. To requote Ethan: Hell yes! Oh yeah I can tell that Mendes will craft this installment as a great addition to the best macho flick for my raging Hormones!

Mendes and Craig = Perfect. I cannot wait for this! I love the dedication Craig has shown to the Bond franchise, and even though Quantum of Solace was convoluted I still liked it and I'm sure Mendes will bring us something awesome.

They should call him James Bored

Awesome. It would have been a bummer for the Bond franchise to end with the shit-stain known as "Quantum of Solace."

SkaOreo on Jan 11, 2011

If there's any justice in the world, 007's next adventure will put an end to this stupid vampire craze once and for all! Who is with me?

Jez on Jan 11, 2011

If there's any justice in the world the next 007 film will have the highest weekend debut for a November release! When that time draws near do you want to set up an "Anti-Twilight" facebook campaign on behalf of 007? At least Daniel Craig is a British actor who can act!

Jez on Jan 11, 2011

The fuck are you talking about? What the hell does Twilight have anything to do with Bond?

SkaOreo on Jan 11, 2011

The Craig ones have been better because he pulls it off better than Brosnan, Dalton, Moore and (gasp!) even Connery I think. It's hard to compare them since it was a different time. At any rate, the last 2 have been much better because they left out all the ridiculous gadget crap and it's more hand-to-hand combat and stunts that are more creative.

jjboldt on Jan 11, 2011

Yeah, and they are also closer to the visceral nature of the original novels. Craig definitely works as Bond, and, again, he's much closer to the Bond of the novels than the other actors (well, maybe except Dalton, but to say that is regarded as heresy...) were. This Bond is more like what Ian Fleming described him as: "A sort of blunt instrument...who would get into bizarre and twisted adventures in which he would have to shoot his way out..."

Marc McKenzie on Jan 12, 2011

I really cant believe your comment about pulling it off better than the other actors, daniel craig has to be one of the worse bonds and isnt a patch on Connery, Moore or Brosnan. I also cant belive you said they were much better as they left out the gadget crap!! this is what makes james bond what it is the latest to have been shit without a Q branch and shit gadgets the best they could offer was a defibulater they are ruining james bond and turning it into bourne

Matt-moose on Nov 3, 2011

Wait so 2012 will have The Hobbit, The Dark Knight Rises AND James Bond 23? Suhweeeeeet!

John.E on Jan 11, 2011

And Man of Steel, The Wolverine, Star Trek 2, Spiderman(Reboot), DeadPool, and Lincoln.

i have no name on Jan 12, 2011

I hope Thomas Newman will do the score.

Robbie on Jan 11, 2011

Just give me Q god dammit. You've gone two films without him, he was always my favourite character, its time to bring him in. Moneypenny too

John.E on Jan 11, 2011

The character "Q" was retired during the Brosnan era and unfortunately, three weeks after the film ( I think it was "The World is Not Enough") opened, Desmond Lleweland (sp?) the actor who portrayed him since "From Russia With Love" passed away and it was proclaimed that there will never be another "Q". There have been several M's however, and Dame Judy Dench is the first female M and the second "M" to be in charge of 2 different Bond's. ( Bernard Lee was "M" to Connery, Lazenby(1), and Moore until his death after Moonraker opened, There was no "M" in "For Your Eyes Only" and in "Octopussy" and "A View to a Kill" M was referred to in title as Minister of Defense, it wasn't until Living Daylights with Timothy Dalton, that "M" was again referred to as "M"

Swfan92769 on Jan 12, 2011

John Cleese took over that role for at least 1, maybe 2 films. Though I can't remember what his character's name was. I don't believe he went by Q. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

jjboldt on Jan 12, 2011

john cleese took over in just the one film die another day in did an ok role in it but Q branch really does need to be brought back with another actor so does money penny. Bond fans miss the gadgets and the things that make bond bond

Pdsgnos on Nov 3, 2011

sweet... cant wait. craig does a good bond. he's definitely up there in favorite bonds. im glad they finally coming back with bond and so is daniel. hopefully this is better. better than quantam at least. cuz the first one craig was in was great.

Anonymous on Jan 11, 2011

2012. will have a lot more.all of most famous secret agents are rounding up in 2012... as for craig he is going to be even more busy if cowboys & aliens and tintin both end up as big hits...

kure on Jan 12, 2011

bring Q back that would make it better than what it already is

luis on Jan 12, 2011

Read my reply to a similar below regarding Q....The character was retired and never to be used again as the actor who played him since 1962 passed a few weeks after the film (World is Not Enough) opened. "R" played by John Cleese was the replacement, but often bungling inventor in the Brosnan series.

Swfan92769 on Jan 12, 2011

Umm.....HELL YEAH.

During the bancruptcy, Bond may have been shaken, but never stirred.

Hattori Hanzo on Jan 12, 2011

Great. looking forward to it. Now can we have more Bond titles on Blu Ray now that more MGM films are starting to come out on Blu (Rain Man, Moonstruck)?

Swfan92769 on Jan 12, 2011

finally its official woohoooo!!!!!!!

A5J4DX on Jan 11, 2011

Okay, but where is Hugo Weaving? Surely Jackson is not going to have someone else play Elrond. Also, it was reported on December 10th that Legolas (once again played by Bloom)will join Galadriel as the second character who never appeared in the Hobbit book that will be inserted into the movie.

Hattori Hanzo on Jan 12, 2011

Ummmm, what?

jjboldt on Jan 12, 2011

If not Q, bring back Moneypenny at least. Casino Royale was a great reboot, but Quantum of Solace lacked the heart and soul of a Bond movie. Yes, Craig can kick peoples' collective asses, now give him some suave for pity's sake..and the gunbarrel sequence at the beginning of the movie.

James on Jan 12, 2011

2012 is gonna be the best year for movies we have bond, Dark Knight Rises, The HObbit, The Avengers, Star Trek 2, Deadpool , and Superman ALL RIGHT!!!!

max s. on Jan 13, 2011

Two things bond 23 I want gadgets whether it be with Q or the Cleese gadget man and Moneypenny. Bond was never the same when they did away with teh gadgets and I mean come on they keep M but not Moneypenny Bond people wakey wakey this will bring it lots more money for the movie!!!

Q_the_money_penny on Feb 22, 2011

Bring back the gun barrel sequence at beginning, the bond theme music used throughout the movie, bring back Q & gadgets, bring back Moneypenny, make the movie fun & adventurous, Quantum Of Solace was a total let down & way too short. I personally think Quantum Of Solace was the worst Bond movie ever made.
