Michael Fassbender

In case you weren't aware, actor Brendon Gleeson of such films as In Bruges and Green Zone has been looking to make his directorial debut for quite some time now with an adaptation of Flann O'Brien's 1939 novel At Swim-Two-Birds. Now it sounds like the project may finally be coming together to shoot in spring 2012, and the cast just gained a fantastic talent. Screen Daily spoke recently with Gleeson who revealed that X-Men: First Class star Michael Fassbender would be starring in the film. That's a great name to add to a passion project for Gleeson that has been in the works for a little over seven years now.

In addition, though we hadn't previously reported on the project, the cast also has In Bruges co-star Colin Farrell signed on along with Gabriel Byrne, Cillian Murphy and Domhnall Gleeson, the actor's son who is slowly becoming a rising star. For those unfamiliar with the book, it appeared on Time Magazine's list of the 100 Greatest Novels of All-Time and it follows a teenage student who populates his creative writing with important characters from his own life. The story is said to be very meta, with the novel the teenage student is working on becoming very intertwined with his real life. The cast alone is enough for me to be quite interested in this project, and it's always interesting to see how an actor works behind the camera rather than in front of it. Funding is still coming together, but hopefully this project will be off the ground sooner than later.

I would watch anything with Gleeson in it...so I most certainly will watch anything he's directing.  And the cast is just...awesome. (The only drawback for me is, my Irish boyfriend broke up with me...so all things Irish are verboten right now...glad it will be a while before this comes out.  Yay!!)

Definitely looking forward to this film. If Brendan Gleeson is as good of a director as he is an actor than this will be a must see! What a dream cast, too! 😀
