Must Watch: Amazing Trailer for 'Captain America: The First Avenger'
by Ethan Anderton
March 23, 2011
We are going to win this war because we have the best men, and they will personally escort Adolf Hitler to the gates of hell! We got to see a glimpse of this trailer just the other day, but the idiot from Entertainment Tonight was talking over the entire clip. Now the first trailer for Captain America: The First Avenger has been released by ET (it's officially out now), but this time they let the trailer speak for itself. Thankfully the trailer speaks pretty loud and clear that this is one kick-ass Marvel Comics adaptation to look forward to this summer. I'm completely sold on this flick, but you can decide for yourself after seeing the trailer below!
Here's the first trailer for Marvel's Captain America: The First Avenger:
After being deemed unfit for military service, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) volunteers for a new top secret research project that turns him into Captain America, a superhero devoted to defending American ideals.
Marvel's Captain America: The First Avenger is directed by Joe Johnston, who previously directed Honey I Shrunk the Kids, The Rocketeer, Jumanji, October Sky, Jurassic Park III, Hidalgo and The Wolf Man. The screenplay was written by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (writers of Life & Death of Peter Sellers, You Kill Me and all three Chronicles of Narnia movies, from Lion, Witch, Wardrobe to Dawn Treader) and also Joss Whedon. Paramount is bringing Captain America to theaters starting on July 22nd this summer.

Holy smokes!!!! Wow, this totally blows away my inhibitions about this Marvel movie. My favorite part is when he picks up the trash can lid and is holding it in front of him like a "shield".....c'mon everyone knows it's theirs too! :p

Why is it that I absolutely do not believe the thin before-version of him? Looks wrong, ey?

because when he says 'just give me a chance' his voice sounds nothing like it should for a man of that size, confused me to

I agree. Like an effect from Mac's Photo Booth. Also I still don't believe in Chris Evans as Cap. Can't help but see him as Jake Wyler.

what i just posted. Its the height i think. He's so short, compared to everyone. I mean, ok we get it. He was weak then he will be super strong. Maybe sometimes you dont need to go from one extreme to another and such a drastic way...really takes me out of the movie and i know i will laugh (not in a good way) when i see it....oh well.

Fictional worlds inhabited by comic books are never based enough in reality. Is that really your argument? You believe the super soldier serum is fine, but that the height of pre-Cap Steve just doesn't quite get it right. You're awesome.

This is a lot better than the other trailers. Why Chris Evans though? Ugh. Honestly I'm not expecting much. The X-Men First Class Trailer was way more epic Interestingly enough.

Meh. More "America saves the world" propaganda. I'd rather watch FOX News.

You'd be surprised how often that comes up in the few CA comic stories I've read. When the Cap was a brand new character, having a symbol of the US going over there and beating the hell out of Hitler was kind of cathartic, especially if you were a kid and couldn't really cope with the magnitude of what was going on in the world. I think that's the spirit this movie's coming from. I wouldn't be surprised if they took the piss out of the whole "AMERICA! FUCK YEAH!!" blind patriotism shit in the process. I guess we won't know until the movie comes out, tho. It looks at least like it'll be a decent big dumb action movie at the worst, but that's just my opinion.

They went with a much more international cast of characters for this film than people realize, sort of demonstrating that we were "all in this together". The Howling Commandos, the guys that come in shooting with Cap in the trailer, are NOT all American. There are Brits and French as well. You can plainly see Dugan (one of the more popular commandos and a Brit) to Cap's left, he's got the iconic facial hair from the comics. So yeah, if you're dissappointed to hear someone playing an American general talking about taking out Hitler with the American super soldier that they're trying to create, then you obviously don't get that this is a Captain America movie. So to the JCameron fella, stick to whatever a smug self-righteous person usually does when this movie comes out. I plan on having a lot of fun watching a classic comic book hero come to life.

You're right man. It's more nostalgia when red skull was Hitler's right hand and captain america saved the day. I think it will be okay
Gfw on Mar 24, 2011

Captain America questions his own government more than almost any comic book character out there. Did you ever read Civil War? His speech to Peter Parker would give you chills. Captain America doesn't fight for America's government; he fights for America's ideals.

Average at best. Amazing? huh The thin Chris Evans looks so, so, so fake, it's not even funny. They should've kept at least his height. I get it, its a comic. ok. But still...

I'm sold. Skinny Steve looks funny but I'm sure he won't be skinny for long.

The skinny Steve looks terrible. How hard would it have been to get the head vs torso ratio to look at least somewhat believable?

Wow. I'm actually shocked. Joe Johnston has been a hit or miss director, but one that's always been capable of making a good movie. Looks like he may have hit the target here. But...It's still just a trailer. Bring on the movie!

I loved it, and for any of those who say this looks terrible; you need to check out Captain America from 1990, which was so bad it was never officially released. I think this is going to be full of insane awesomness and will setup the Avengers movie very well!

everyone saying this is bad needs to chill, we knew going in that they had to use cg to get him looking scrawny pre-s.s.p., and the problem, i think, you are having is everyone has a idea what Chris Evans looks like, so seeing him drastically altered is throwing you off, its a funhouse mirror effect, you know what your seeing is not real so your brain can't accept it, you need to realise it's a movie and just suspend your disbelief, and if you can't do that for a comic book then maybe you should stay away from movies using c.g.i, because everything will look fake to you, just my opinion

I have a feeling this is gonna be shit. Reason - It looks as though the character of Cap is not the honest, down to Earth, high level moral values, never dare to swear, always treat ladies with respect sorta character he's meant to be. It looks like it's a modern day spin on Captain America so that people can relate better. But if this is what they've done, they've ruined the essence of what makes Captain America the great hero he is...

It all seems like good fun to me, but over the years we've all been burned by amazing trailers that turn out to be crappy movies. Personally I'm more of a Thor guy, but I've yet to see a Marvel movie that wasn't worth the price of admission (yea even IM2).

I know nothing at all about Captain America, and therefore have no credibility to make any judgement about it's faithfulness to the source material. However, I really enjoyed this trailer because it looked like the exact opposite of the Thor trailer, it looked good! I hope that Chris Evans is not his normal smirky self. The only times I've read anything about Cap was in Marvel 1602 and a little in Civil War. He did not seem like the Johnny Storm smirker type that Evans normally plays. I don't care how big he is, because muscles don't make an actor good.

Um, so Tony Stark didn't create his shield in 2010? How is this going to tie in with the Avengers? How old will the Cap be in 2012? Or are they going to show how the job was handed down over the years?
