Take Shelter Trailer

"Is anyone seeing this?" Sony Pictures Classics has debuted the official trailer for an indie film called Take Shelter, written and directed by Jeff Nichols (Shotgun Stories) that stars Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain. I actually saw this while I was in Cannes and loved it, it's a fantastic, unsettling, but brilliant thriller that blew me away, I loved it. This trailer features some of the very eerie score that makes the movie so good, in my opinion, as well as a sampling of the craziness - it's an outstanding trailer. I really hope some of you take an interest in seeing this, as it does come highly recommended! You've gotta see it to believe it.

Watch the official trailer for Jeff Nichols' Take Shelter, in high def from Yahoo:

Plagued by a series of apocalyptic visions, a young husband and father (Michael Shannon) living in rural Ohio questions whether to shelter his family from a coming storm, or just from himself and his delusions.

Take Shelter is both written and directed by American filmmaker Jeff Nichols, also director of that other Michael Shannon indie Shotgun Stories, previously. This premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year and also played in the Cannes Critics' Week side (where I saw it) to much acclaim. Sony Pictures Classics is bringing Take Shelter to limited theaters and has tentatively set an October 7th release this fall. Thoughts?

One of the best trailers I've ever seen.

I totally agree, at the beginning I was afraid they were gonna show other peoples reactions or something so youd know it was real or fake by the end. Instead, Im totally teased and really dont know what to think.

agree entirely. portentous imagery and lighting to set the mood, hints of story and plot to intrigue but not oversell, enough snatches of script and what appears to be fine performances to want to see more... seriously, this is how you do trailers (Sony, don't release another, just leave it at this!). i'm in.

Oh come on, are you kidding? It's a GREAT film and I'm not the only one who likes it, it's been highly acclaimed since Sundance.

I think what Josh is referring to Alex is that sometimes things you like and/or really like can turn out to be crapfests....sometimes

Well I don't agree, of course, but still, this is a great film and he shouldn't change his opinion if I praise a film, especially an indie like this.

Michael Shannon is a great actor. I'm glad I'm starting to see him in more significant roles these days. Crazy as hell in Bug. Awesome in Boardwalk Empire. I'm all over this.

i thought he was excellent as the unbalanced but intelligent son in "revolultionary road too - MS should work more than he does.

Lol, Boardwalk empire ruined this actor for me, anytime I see a pic of him I imagine him shouting biblical jabble with that insane look on his face.

Cody W. on May 23, 2011

17

Watch him in Revolutionary Road.  That should remedy the problem.  He made me laugh so hard in those scenes with him and his mother character (Kathy Bates).

I would watch this just to see Michael Shannon perform.  He's one of the most interesting actors lately.

Wow. Confirms in my mind why Michael Shannon will be a better Zod than any other actor out there. He wears anguish on his face well. He delivers lines with an intensity that is read in the eyes. In this film, it looks as if he displays some of that incredible talent.

Do you think it's possible that someone else directed The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable and they just put his name on them? 😉

Shannon would make a great crazy doctor's son in a Human Centipede sequel...just sayin...

I am definitely seeing this LOL M. Shannon is a great actor and the movie looks very creepy!

I went to school with Jeff Nichols. He was studying film while I was studying acting. He is one of the most talented young directors I have ever met.  Can not wait to see this.

Looks interesting to say the least. Hoping for something more profound and impacting than Shutter Island.

Super psyched. Also, just watched Groundhog Day and, lo and behold, there was Michael Shannon for 10 seconds. ^^ Your fun fact for the day.

Looks really good. The basic plot of this is just like Noah's Ark though. I assume that's intentional.
