The Hunger Games

The games will change everyone. Lionsgate is ready to unleash the first full trailer via Apple for Gary Ross' highly anticipated adaptation of The Hunger Games, starring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, the girl from District 12 who competes in the annual Hunger Games. The first teaser trailer hit back in August, and while we get a glimpse at the grim world this takes place in and some of the training at the Capitol, we don't get much fighting yet. Hunger Games also stars Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, Liam Hemsworth as Gale, Elizabeth Banks as Effie, and Woody Harrelson Haymitch, and Willow Shields as Prim. Fire this up!

The Hunger Games is both written and directed by Oscar nominated filmmaker Gary Ross, director of Seabiscuit and Pleasantville previously, but also writer of Big, Mr. Baseball, Dave, Lassie, Pleasantville and Seabiscuit. It's adapted from Suzanne Collins' popular series of novels, first published in 2008. Lionsgate is bringing The Hunger Games to theaters everywhere starting March 23rd, 2012 next spring. I don't get what the fuss is all about. It's already been made with "The Condemned" and other arena movies where someone fights for survival.

Qweqweq on Nov 14, 2011

Read the books.

Ali Miller on Nov 14, 2011

every single person i told to read the books thought it was unbelievable. trust me, read them. its not like anything else.

Christian Good on Nov 15, 2011

I read The Hunger Games and couldn't believe how much of it was just like the Battle Royal novel. The plot was almost exactly the same. It's been done.

mcbot on Dec 20, 2011

I am looking forward to this film but thought the teaser trailer actually looked better.

Bazzmosis on Nov 14, 2011

IMO, it wouldn't be as disturbing with adults. The concept of a 12-year-old child (the youngest age allowed in the games) potentially murdering OR being murdered by another child is just sick, which is the whole point: the Capitol uses the Games to scare the Districts into staying tame and not rebelling.

Ali Miller on Nov 14, 2011

I agree.  I thought this trailer was pretty scary for the exact reason you describe.  What's really scary is that this sort of thing is really going on.  Not with all the sci-fi/ running man aesthetic, but there are armies of children who have been kidnapped and forced to train with deadly weapons and slaughter people under the threat of death.  It's a real demonstration of human depravity, that a person would use a person's fear of death to get them to do much worse things to their conscience.

JL on Nov 14, 2011

Great trailer. I love the tone of Ross's directing, and Jennifer seems like a confident lead. Good intro for the non-fans and the tension of the final cornucopia moment promises awesome things for the Games themselves. Can't wait!

Ali Miller on Nov 14, 2011

Yes! Yes! Yes! OMG 'The Hunger Games' is going to be huge! I can't wait!!! I'll be going on opening night with all my girls! Woooo! 🙂

this look pretty pad

ninja on Nov 14, 2011

I think I like it better than your spelling

Brandon V. Fletcher on Nov 14, 2011

I didn't see anything appealing to that at all... It felt like a Chris Columbus film  and I can't stand that style. It just didn't capture my attention. Oh well. Better films coming out next year.

zakabitz28 on Nov 14, 2011

i'm  not into  it. of course, i didn't read the books - so maybe that's why.

Anonymous on Nov 14, 2011

read the books. everybody i know who has, has loved them.

Christian Good on Nov 15, 2011

looks better than the twilight-ie teaser...  though I'm sure it's the same core audience.

Anonymous on Nov 14, 2011

So not the same core audience. People need to stop comparing the two. Its really degrading to this franchise.

Traveler on Nov 15, 2011

To each his/her own....  A movie adaptation from a novel series about a teenage girl and a bizarre love triangle between friends / lovers and their undying need to 'protect' one another at all costs...  yeah, no similarity at all.  And neither appeals to teenage girls. Trailer doesnt look 'dark enough' not to appeal the twi-hard, tweeny bopper crowd. It would be a bit of a stretch to say they are exact same story, but core audience??  c'mon... It's the same core audience the way LOTR, Star Wars, Star Trek and Transformers have the same 'core' audience.     If you see it otherwise, totally your opinion and that's cool...

Anonymous on Nov 16, 2011

Have you even read the books? HG appeals to a lot more people than teens and moms. Much broader audience than Twilight. And the love story is not similar in the least. All I'm trying to say is that its unfair to suggest this is the next Twilight because that will only turn people away.

Traveler on Nov 16, 2011

Fair enough.  I'll agree that HG's darker themed & whatnot (kids killing kids to keep society in line) with political over tones and yes it does take a different path than twilight in terms of story, however I still think that the people writing the checks to have these movies made have their sights set on the twilight tweeny bopper crowd and when it's all said and done it'll end up looking like running man for girls...

Anonymous on Nov 16, 2011

Transformers does not belong in that list. How dare you, sir.

Anonymous on Dec 23, 2011

Woody Harrelson doesn't seem drunk enough.

Agent Kid Society on Nov 14, 2011

These books are fantastic and the movie looks perfectly cast. So much better than the Twilight trash out there.

Courtney on Nov 14, 2011

I give a thumbs up, BUT, I was looking for an edgier look to photography & actors.  Hope it has some of the Inception-Sherlock Holmes-style of special effects.

Sumar68 on Nov 14, 2011

Elizabeth Banks with a phony English accent is very disappointing... I imagined her with a more Californian Valley Girl-ish accent. That's ruined it foe me. And all the sci-fi stuff DOES look weird. They should not have shown that much of it. I was hoping the Capitol and its inhabitants and everything else that happens there looked a bit more 'real world'. Oh well. Once they get in the arena, it's all cool from that point onward.

George Caltsoudas on Nov 15, 2011

Costumes and production design looks like a made for tv film. No way I'm going to pay 18 dollars to see this in the theaters. I'll wait for it to air on free tv.

Ticketmaster on Nov 15, 2011

This looks cool as hell Liked Running man, liked Battle Royale, don't think the basic concept is over done. That is all. Yeah good look with that 'n don't F it up

Richie G on Nov 15, 2011

battle royale looks better.

battle royale winner on Nov 15, 2011

trust me this isnt like narnia, they cut eachothers heads off in this.

Christian Good on Nov 15, 2011

Really hate the cinematography. Those scenes in the woods look like they were shot by a teenage filmmaker.

Moon on Nov 15, 2011

I absolutely love this trailer. Except for Woody Harrelson's hair. Really bad. Other than that, I can't wait for this!

Traveler on Nov 15, 2011

hard target with kids looks rubbish

danny on Nov 16, 2011

I think the point is that kids are innocent, theres nothing shocking about adults killing each other...

Dan3659 on Nov 17, 2011

It looks really... meh.

John on Nov 21, 2011

this seems like a battle royale rip off....

Vguy on Nov 26, 2011

mcbot on Dec 20, 2011

You guys need to STOP hateing ive read the whole series twice and im in love with the hunger games and by the looks of things if the movie is half as good as the books its going to do very well may the odds be ever in your favor hunger games movie 🙂

Kinasmileyface on Dec 30, 2011

I keep seeing these battle royale comments, I see the similarity but hey if this were to be a modern live action of that story then it looks good, damn good. I think one major thing that makes it a hands down-non adaption of battle royale is that they're trained for this, seems like a whimp of an example but I think it's solid enough to stand on it's own, plus the whole bombs on the neck thing...pretty trademark stuff. Dunno if it reaches the psychotic level of the battle royale but it looks good all the same.
