Since his turn in last summer's Inception, many fans of Joseph Gordon-Levitt are looking forward to his role in Chris Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. But between now and then, the child actor turned impressive adult star can be seen in 50/50 (which hits theaters on September 30th) and this new thriller Premium Rush. We've already seen the aftermath of the actor smashing into a taxi cab in this adrenaline-fueled thriller, but this first trailer is full of energy, and really looks like an intense ride through the streets of New York City. Plus, you can't go wrong with Michael Shannon as the villain in hot pursuit. Check this out!
Here's the first trailer for David Koepp's Premium Rush courtesy of Yahoo:

In Premium Rush, a New York bike messenger (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) picks up an envelope that attracts the interest of a dirty cop (Michael Shannon), who pursues the cyclist throughout the city desperate to get his hands on the envelope. Jamie Chung (Sucker Punch), Dania Ramirez (X-Men: The Last Stand) and Aasif Mandvi (Ghost Town) also star in this. David Koepp, director of Ghost Town and Secret Window and writer of Jurassic Park and Mission: Impossible, is directing the film and also co-wrote the script with John Kamps (who also wrote Ghost Town). Premium Rush hits theaters on January 13th, 2012. Excited?

I like to think Bike Messengers are a sub culture of thier very own. Hipsters they are not.

Well, hipster can refer to an indie culture of outside thinkers, which could be bike messengers, but more importantly Xerxexx...I think you're getting too caught up in true definition of terminology. You know what he meant... 😉

@twitter-89046279:disqus I Probably am. I know the term hipster is used to define a broad spectrum of individuals. I did know what he meant...just felt like challenging.

I work in NYC and use couriers at least 8 times a day. I can vouch that from agency to agency for couriers there is a GIGANTIC range of "types" when it comes to bike messengers. Maybe if this was a fixed-gear movie your comment would be relevant but the most bike messengers have in common is that they smell like BO (or can sell you weed), not that they are hipsters.

Awesome. Pretty damn awesome! Did Levitt actually shave his head for 50/50? I'm in will be there openiing night.

Yes, he did. They scene the scene the first day.

Looks pretty good despite the act of trying to make fixed gears cool. At least he is in New York so a fixy makes sense. Hipsters are going to love this movie. I hope the biking scenes are done well, because I am a huge biker myself and it will ruin the movie if they are done poorly.

I put Bike Messengers in their own category.
Xerxexx on Sep 16, 2011

Bike Messengers are not prevalant enough to have their own category. Sorry buddy, I live in a HUGE bike town and all the hipsters ride fixies. Bike messengers don't exist in my environment.

Bike Messengers are pretty big in New York from what I heard.

Indeed man, they are definitely a big part of NY life. Futura 200 used to be a messenger back in the 80's, he actually got a few career breaks just by getting into folks offices and meeting people. I like this dudes photos but here's a link that relates a little to the bike thing in NY: http://blog.suckapants.com/2005/04/no-really-officer-this-bike-is-not.html Often from reading his blog, friends of his have died in courier/bike related accidents. I'm rambling too many beers tonight.

@0b4f1da6f0d30ffc9bcafbcca817cbb5:disqus I've heard a ton of stories about Bike Messengers some good some bad, an interesting culture indeed.

read the script, and it wasn't bad. looking forward to this, i just hope it doesn't go cheesy

yea, Bike Messengers have been around way longer than hipsters. They are their own Culture. Hipster... They don't ride that fast...

I dunno about this. I like the cast 'n all, but there's something about this I just don't like. It seems to be saying "we're bike messengers and we're extreme": bit douchie. I prefer my protagonists to be on the down and out like die hard not I'm the best at what I do and thats why you called me like die hard 4

Few things on this planet more annoying than bike messengers. I skipped Quicksilver and I think I'll skip this as well.

Indeed. The trailer doesn't look very good...

heh. "hipster". Does that even mean anything anymore? According to the internet, if you're interested in anything beyond video games, action movies and the sort of music you hear on the radio you're some kind of hipster.

That's my problem with the term, its taken on so many meanings that it seems to have no meaning anymore.

Sf bike messengers will be eating this up..hha I see them very day mashing down this hills on fixies and drinking at the dive bars.. Believe me, they all would love to use weapons to smash in asshole drivers.

This looks horrible. Not sure what quadrant(s) this is going for. Not sure what some great actors (JGL, Shannon) are doing here but I think the January release speaks volumes about Sony's faith behind this.
Gatesoffire1178 on Sep 18, 2011

All I know is that every fix gear track rider in Sf hates this trailer right now. It's exploiting the culture. They already have a bike film festival here, and are already thinking of heckling the hell out of this film when it comes out.
