New Take on 'Beauty and the Beast' is Developing with Emma Watson

Currently the filmmaker is busy prepping his big budget sci-fi venture Pacific Rim, but Guillermo del Toro is always busy with a plethora of other projects in development, and one more has just surfaced. ComingSoon recently spoke to Denise Di Novi, producer of Crazy, Stupid, Love, and she revealed that she's been working with del Toro on developing a new adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. Even more intriguing is that this new take on the classic take would have Harry Potter franchise star Emma Watson (who plays Hermione Granger in the box office record breaking series) stepping up to star in the project.
At this time no details on what how this new adaptation will approach the story, but with del Toro involved, it has to be something fantastic. His dark take on fairytales with Pan's Labyrinth was absolutely stunning, so I can only hope he brings that magic to this project as well. It sounds like the filmmaker is pretty keen on working on a Disney-esque tale since he's also expressed interest in Disney's Maleficent, the film that tells the story of Sleeping Beauty from the evil witch's point of view. Hopefully we'll hear more about this project sooner than later, so stay tuned as more information becomes available.

Love his work. Snow white, beauty and the beast, Hansel and gretel. Let the recycling of fairy tales begin.

She can't act. And once she's in a non-HP vehicle it will become blatantly clear. And she wouldn't even be a model if it wasn't for HP fame. She should have stayed at Brown.

Well you're obviously an expert...did you not SEE the last two Potter films? Â She was excellent in both. Â I think she'll do great wherever she goes.
