Nick Fury Cameos Now Confirmed in Both 'Captain America' & 'Thor'

Nick Fury

For whatever reason, in April of last year Samuel L. Jackson confirmed that while he would have a cameo as Nick Fury in this summer's Captain America: The First Avenger, the eye-patched character would not be appearing in Thor. Well, it looks we can throw that bit of news out the window as Jackson appeared on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" last night (via SlashFilm) where he revealed that he will have expected cameos alongside both Captain America and Thor, but he hasn't shot those scenes yet. In addition, Jackson said that The Avengers is apparently slated to shoot in April, and a new female character will join him.

First, as far as his work on Captain America and Thor is concerned, here is what Sam Jackson had to say:

"In the next month or so, I have to do one day on 'Thor,' and I gotta do another day on 'Captain America,' and in April we start 'The Avengers' — the big deal with everybody. 'Thor' and 'Captain America' are pretty much done, but I haven't done my part in them yet. I'm just connective tissue for them to join 'The Avengers.'"

Then elaborating ever so slightly on The Avengers, Jackson also revealed that he'll have a female sidekick in the superhero ensemble flick. He states: "I gotta screen test like five actresses on Friday. They have this new character that's my sidekick or something, that's with me all the time." So apparently Black Widow won't be accompanying Nick Fury as she did in Iron Man 2. Director Joss Whedon has said there would be other female characters besides Scarlett Johansson's leather-clad Black Widow, but the question is - who from the Marvel universe will be at Nick Fury's side? Who do you think Fury's sidekick might be?

Maria Hill, who succeeded Nick Fury as Director of SHIELD in the comics (briefly), or Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman) who was a SHIELD agent for an extended run.

Hillary Clinton. Just kidding! I'm betting on Maria Hill.

Keep in mind, all: a 'new character' means it can possibly be someone NOT FROM comics, and that's not a problem at all. Look at the first Batman movie; Rachel Dawes was a great addition to the film and she was never in comics. And maybe she's going to be a spy from HYDRA or something, so there's a whole slew of villains that could be pretending to be new characters.

Nah, they just thought everyone would cry if they killed off Vicky Vale. I think... never read any Batman comics. Seriously though, it was a red-shirt character they added to humanize him.

Come on guys, sidekick my ass; he's just getting a random secretary/eye candy. $5 it's another model that gets impaled for 'shock value' like Quaid's nut butter bucket in G.I.JOE. or at-best, another Rachel Dawes.
