Paramount Announces 3D Showings of 'Thor' on IMAX Screens, Too!

If seeing the God of Thunder wield his hammer on the regular big screen in 3D just wasn't enough for you, then we have some good news coming your way. Paramount Pictures, Marvel Entertainment and IMAX have just announced that Thor will also be hitting IMAX screens in 3D when the film hits theaters on May 6th. Considering the epic visuals of Asgard, and the big special effects driven actions sequences, Thor should be quite the visual feast on IMAX screens, especially in 3D. If all goes well with this release, I'm will to bet we'll see news down the road that Captain America: The First Avenger, might also be in IMAX, too.

Be sure to check out the first trailer here, as well as the more recent second full length trailer as well. Marvel's Thor is directed by British actor/director Kenneth Branagh, who previously directed Shakespeare adaptations like Much Ado About Nothing and Hamlet, as well as the films Love's Labour's Lost, The Magic Flute and Sleuth. The script was written by Ashley Miller & Zack Stentz (of Agent Cody Banks, "Fringe") and Don Payne (My Super Ex-Girlfriend, 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer) from a story by J. Michael Straczynski and Mark Protosevich. Paramount is bringing Thor to theaters in 3D starting on May 6th this summer! You in?

We have a pretty decent 3D Imax here in Denver...but is it really going to be worth the extra money?

Is this filmed in 3d (Resident Evil style) or post converted (Clash of the Titans style) ?

Kaim on Apr 20, 2011

Pretty sure it was filmed. Even if converted im 100% positive it will look better than COTT

I'm getting really SICK of 3D only showings in IMAX. At least offer regular 2D showings....I'm seriously considering buying that pair of glasses that converts 3D movies into 2D.!5793752/these-2d-glasses-make-3d-movies-watchable-again

I just bought a pair!

I doubt it would work with IMAX as the image is polarised differently than other 3D systems like RealD.

You bet I'm in. The movie will be release next week ( 27th ) in Trinidad. Can't wait.

Hey Alex, I want to get your opinion or what you think, in this question: do you think Thor in the new movie will levitate/fly? They haven't really shown evidence of it in any of the trailers but in the comics and cartoons he could, cuz obviously, he's not human. What do you think?

Jwb3 on Apr 21, 2011

I think he can but he uses it sparingly. When he first gets to Earth he doesn't have any powers, so most of that footage wouldn't show him doing anything besides being strong. I bet me might be able to levitate or hover. Honestly, I don't know, I'm seeing it soon so it's pointless to worry about this when I'll just find out soon enough! 🙂

Awesome! And you're absolutely right its only 2 and a half weeks away of coming out. Thanks for gettin' back

Jwb3 on Apr 21, 2011

I'm sure it'll be there. Then again, according to the early reviews, Thor does fly. He also deals damage with Mjolnir. Early reviews of the film have been positive...and besides, you'll find out in a couple of weeks!

Yes he does fly, during ice giants battle, detroyer fight and on return to Asgard.

I saw Thor in 3-D 4 days ago here in Australia. trust just watch it in 2-D. As the it is not worth it in 3-D. One word for the film though...AWESOME I thought that Marvel had lost there touch with Ironman 2. God I hated that film but now am really looking forward to Captain America and The Avengers.

Last Son: Awesome????? NO storyline. No excitement. 3-D of coming attractions WAS 3-D. The movie was too far from it. Thor's friends are able to traverse the space to get to Earth to not only help him but get him back while for almost the movie's entirety he could do nothing of the sort alone? Did anything of note, ANYTHING at all happen? Admittedly, my first clue should have been there were only eight other people waiting in the theater for the movie and I got in there only moments before it started.
