The most recent casting had Ellen Page taking on a role that will pit her against the film's star and co-writer Brit Marling, but now The East has just gained another fantastic female talent. Variety now has word that Patricia Clarkson (Easy A, Good Night and Good Luck) has joined the eco-terrorist thriller which follows a private contracting firm tasked with protecting big corporations from radical environmentalists and anti-business extremists that assigns its best and brightest agent to infiltrate a mysterious anarchist organization known only as The East. The Oscar-nominated Clarkson will be playing Marling's boss.
Meanwhile, Marling is playing the undercover agent who ends up falling in love with the leader of The East (Alexander Skarsgard), while Page has been set to play Izzy, another member who who used to be Skarsgard's lover and is now jealous of their newfound relationship. In addition, Toby Kebbell (The Conspirator) will be play a doctor with Parkinson’s-like symptoms caused by a tainted drug, but it's not clear how that fits into the story just yet. Clarkson has taken on interesting comedic roles as of late in Friends with Benefits and "Parks & Recreation" on NBC, but her dramatic work is even better.
