We've had confirmation of a sequel to Pixar's hit film Monsters Inc. since last April, but just recently Disney's presentation at CinemaCon revealed that the anticipated sequel would be called Monsters University. The sequel is slated to hit theaters in late 2012 with Billy Crystal and John Goodman back to voice Mike and Sully. Confirming the previous rumor about the film's plot, Disney announced that the two monsters were not the best of friends when they both entered the university, and this will tell the story of how they became such good friends. No director was annaounced, but now we know who will be at the helm of this sequel.
ComingSoon has confirmed with Walt Disney Pictures that Dan Scanlon will be in the director's chair for the sequel. Previously he has worked as a story artist on both Cars and Toy Story 3 and he also directed the spin-off short film Mater and the Ghostlight featuring characters from Cars. Producing the film will be Kori Rae who worked on another Cars-related short Mater's Tall Tales as well as Up. Pixar loves keeping their projects in the family, and with this story idea, the sequel has the potential for a lot of fun. What do you think?

As much as I'm sick of all the sequels, prequels, and remakes...I love Pixar and this would be fantastic. Billy Crystal and John Goodman were fantastic and I can't wait to see more from them. Now if only Brad Bird would get around to an Incredibles sequel.....
