Quentin Tarantino Unveils His Top 20 of 2010 - Toy Story 3 is #1

Though we're now a few days into 2011, that doesn't mean we can't continue to looking back at 2010. That includes featuring more Best of lists, like this one - filmmaker Quentin Tarantino's Favorite Movies of 2010. He starts naming 11… then continues on to feature 20 total, so that's what I've posted below, courtesy of the The Tarantino Archives. It's a good, fun list that will definitely spark some debate, especially because Toy Story 3 is #1 and that's followed by odd choices like Tangled (which I also loved), Cyrus, Knight & Day (what the heck?!?), Get Him To The Greek, Robin Hood and many more. Read on for his full list!
Quentin Tarantino's Favorite Movies of 2010:
1. Toy Story 3
2. The Social Network
3. Animal Kingdom
4. I Am Love
5. Tangled
6. True Grit
7. The Town
8. Greenberg
9. Cyrus
10. Enter The Void ("Hands down best credit scene of the year … Maybe best credit scene of the decade. One of the greatest in cinema history." – QT)
11. Kick Ass
12. Knight and Day
13. Get Him To The Greek
14. The Fighter
15. The Kings Speech
16. The Kids Are All Right
17. How To Train Your Dragon,
18. Robin Hood
19. Amer
20. Jackass 3-D
They don't really provide much commentary besides that quote next to Enter the Void, but what a funky list, that's for sure. Last year Tarantino had some odd picks as well, so this shouldn't be too surprising. I'm sure he'll say he probably hasn't seen Black Swan or it would be on there, and that probably goes for a few other big ones. But very interesting and fascinating choices, nonetheless. I'm always quite curious to see what he chooses because he has a very unique perspective on cinema that I do actually appreciate seeing. Thankfully his Top 3 are films that I think are some of the best of the year as well, so good job! What do you think?

I almost agree with his entire list save for Jackass 3-D (which was funny, great to see Steve-O off drugs doing wacky antics).

So Jackass 3, Knight and Day, Kick Ass and Robin Hood make his top 20 list, but Inception and Black Swan don't? Just goes to show you that even the great Tarantino has questionable taste at times.

He saw Black Swan. He was head of the Venice Film Fest jury.

This coming from a guy who only shoots violence has an opinion about what is good, violence isn't creativity, it's the lack of.

Dang, no Let Me In? That was my number one favorite movie this year, and I was hoping it would be somewhere on his list. Maybe he didn't see it...

QT makes movies about violence, with the requisite depictions of violence. Don't be a wet blanket, John.

Knight and day is such an entertaining and fun movie, everyone said it's crap but I completely disagree. Tha fact that Tarantino included it in his list is a great relief for me. I'm not crazy! Well, maybe I am, but not alone!

No Somewhere? I haven't seen it, I just remember the controversy that came up when it won the Venice Film Festival (the controversy being that Tarantino is a friend of Sofia Coppola, and helped her win because the were friends). I don't know what this says about the controversy, it either says A. He did help her win solely because they were friends, or B. He didn't really like the movie and the rest of the board voted it the winner.

How is Scott Pilgrim vs. The World not on there?

@12 - Maybe "Somewhere" is QT's 21st favorite movie of the year..... 😉

No Inception? I guess I can put "taste in movies" next to "ability to act" in my list of things that sucks about Tarantino.

One more thing...I liked The Social Network a lot...heck I saw it 3 times at the theater but all of this love for it is getting a bit absurd. It's a good movie but it's no best picture and does not belong in anyone's top 2.

I bet QT was weeping at the end of Toy Story 3.

Yeah #15 I saw Knight and day on there but not inception really reminds how shitty his taste in movies is..its like hes astounded with some of the most basic things.

Nice, intentionally did not put inception on the list. The list has range, and inceptions concept must have been unoriginal to him. Knight and Day???? He sure loves those 3d animation films. I mean how can't you not fall in love with them visually and whole heartily? I'm surprised he did not put Machete!!! Social network FTW, it had an effect on me that stayed.

@19 I'm pretty sure he was a producer on Machete. Not sure if he counts movies he's involved with on his list.

if u know why and how quentin tarantino does his movies, and that he is a big fan to oldschool storytelling and actionmovies u also know why knight and day is on the list. loved this movie - was even more tribute than the expendables.

He missed a lot of important movies.

Maybe he thought Inception and BS were great films but just not one of his favs or yeah as someone else commented, maybe a couple of them he had not seen, either way Tarantino's opinion counts to me, thats for sure. My list in no particular order of fav films of 2010 Black Swan Animal Kingdom Inception Toy Story 3 The Social Network The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (Saw it in 2010) Winter's Bone Greenberg The Town Shutter Island

i just knew any best of list not including inception would stir up the nolan fanboys. hey, newsflash, not everyone thought it was the greatest thing since slice bread. get over it.

Inception is my second favorite movie of the year but I still think it's the most overrated movies since Avatar.

That's just Quentin's list people. Make up your own and if you're cool and or important enough, someone will care and interview you. Until then, quit your whining.

You guys are looking at this totally the wrong way. These are probably what he thinks are the most well made/ directed movies of 2010, not what he thinks are the most entertaining to watch.

Great list. Any List worth reading should be idiosyncratic, and this one passes the test. I'm very glad to see snob-defying movies like "Robin Hood" and "Knight and Day" up there alongside many of the usual (and very worthy) critical darlings. Way to go, QT. And can we stop with the "such-and-such has terrible taste" or "is WRONG about the best movie of the movie" nonsense? There is no best movie, guys, just favorites.

I'm really shocked he didn't go for Black Swan. His list is a lot more main stream appreciated than other years. I can dig him putting Knight and Day on their. Is it a favorite of mine? Hell no. But its kind of got that old cinema, mix matched couple adventure aspect to it.

Has anyone else seen Cyrus? I thought it was one of the worst of the year. its predictable, and other than boy meets girl, literally nothing happens in the first hour, and 30 mins later its over. with such a great cast, I was completely let down.
bucker96 on Jan 3, 2011

I haven't seen most of these, but Knight and Day was horrendous. It is contending with Salt as my pick for worst movie of the year.

ITT: A bunch of people whine that a director "DOESN'T LIKE TEH MOVIES I LIKE!!! BAAAAAH!!" #6 If you honestly believe that, then I don't believe you've ever watched any of his films.

Whos gives a flying rats ass. He is entitled to his own opinions on his favorite movies. Some of you Im pretty sure have your own tastes as well. I sure as hell loved inception, but there are people out there who didnt. I know the Tomato Meter isnt the best viable resource but it isnt greater than 90% with 100+ reviews. Thats just an example. People have their own taste, just because he didnt choose certian films that are highly/critically acclaimed doesnt mean he has bad taste in movies. He just states what he likes. And to be honest I never liked any of his films including Pulp Fiction. Flame me on that all you want. But thats my opinion. Some of you choose to be overweight, or are at the moment, and some of you are not. Some of you are fat, have tattos, pay for overpriced movie tickets and so forth. Point is, people have their own opinion whether you like it or not. XD

No Inception or Let Me In (WTF). And he added Knight And Day, Robin Hood, Get Him To The Greek & Jackass 3-d to his top 20. Is this like a joke list or what. I love QT's films but I for one don't like his taste in films. Knight and Day was ok but not great. Robin Hood was boring as hell and because Russell looked like Maximus it was hard to see him as Robin Hood. Get Him To The Greek had it's moments but overall just an ok film and as for Jackass 3-d (IT'S NOT A BLOODY MOVIE, IT'S A DOCUMENTARY OF A BUNCH OF MORONS HURTING THEMSELVES)

It's kinda funny how everyone's saying they love his movies but don't dig his taste in movies. I hate his movies but think his taste in movies in great. I'm all mixed up.
