Ramin Bahrani & Zac Efron

I assume that most people have never heard of Ramin Bahrani, which is a bit of a shame, but I'm hoping to change that today. If you do know Bahrani and/or his films, please make yourself known in the comments below. Bahrani is actually an American filmmaker who I was first introduced to with the film Goodbye Solo, a fantastic indie that I highly suggesting renting/watching as soon as possible. Some may know him from 2007's Chop Shop as well. Bahrani has a new untitled project in the works and has snagged some rather impressive names for the film: Dennis Quaid and Zac Efron. Odd picks, but I'm sure they'll be great in it.

The casting news comes from Variety (via The Film Stage) and there's not many details on the project, as they're keeping it rather mum. Bankside Films is selling the project in Cannes, which will start shooting later this summer. The film will tell the story of "a farmer whose manic expansion alienates his sons and devoted wife." That's not much to go on, but again, Bahrani is a unique filmmaker and I'm interested simply because it's his new project. Plus, with names like this, I'm curious to see Zac Efron stretch his acting chops again in something that's a smaller indie, since I was actually impressed with his work in Me and Orson Welles. We will keep you updated. In the meantime, do yourself a favor and look into Bahrani's filmography.

Zac has been earning major props with me lately and this is just another very great and respectable project for him to commit to. It'll be nice to finally see Dennis Quaid in something that's actually good lol (in a while anyway). Love Bahrani, love the sound of the premise. I'm pumped.

I loved Goodbye Solo, CHop Shop and Man Push Cart...Ramin is one of my favorite directors, his films are so realistic and full of life!
