A 'Real Steel' Sequel with Hugh Jackman is Already Being Developed

We've only seen a teaser trailer and some early viral marketing material online, but DreamWorks robot boxing flick Real Steel doesn't hit theaters until October 7th. However, DreamWorks has so much faith in the metal smashing romp that Deadline reports the studio is already developing a sequel. John Gatins, who wrote the first film, has already been commissioned to write the sequel and star Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy are expected to return as well. Apparently the internal screenings of the movie and CinemaCon footage got a huge response, and the film is slowly, but surely, generating some serious buzz.
Honestly, some people have been ragging on the flick online calling it a rip-off of Transformers, but I see the potential for a great Rocky-esque film with some real heart behind it. I think this film will really show people that they shouldn't write off Shawn Levy as a director, and this story of a prize fighter whose pugilistic skills are rendered obsolete when human boxers are replaced by robots will be a big one later this year. If a sequel is already being planned, I suggest everyone keep their ears to the ground for more from this promising movie. What do you think?

I think they are jumping the gun a little here.

I agree with you that the underlying story shows real promise above and beyond the whole robot on robot pyrotechnics.

"Transformers rip-off"? I don't know about that. Seems more like, "Rock'em Sock'em Robots: The Movie" to me. 🙂

I agree. Real Steel??? Like maybe it will be really cool. But it seems a little too much for me.

I love Hugh Jackman's work but this is hardly the kind of film worthy of a sequel. I might be wrong though. Guess we'll have to wait and see

yeah.......no i think this movie will flop and they are just wasting time with a sequel....i mean it has to be a really good looking movie or have hella CGI for me to want to pay 10 bucks on a movie and then another 25 just getting popcorn and a soda pop and rockem sockem robots really doesn't look that interesting...

This should help to understand that Real Steel produced by Steven Spielberg, it was considered good enough to justify sequels even before the movie is released. People could see RS in preview are pretty excited. No one bet on something if it is not worth, nor as a producer Steven Spielberg...
