Robert Luketic Has a 'Brilliant' Plan for Biggest Diamond Heist Ever
The man who brought us such gems as Legally Blonde and Killers is now getting into the diamond heist business. Or rather, at least director Robert Luketic is into telling the story about stealing diamonds as Variety reports that the filmmaker is set to direct Brilliant, a story chronicling what could be the biggest diamond heist of all time. The focus is actually a small-time criminal who becomes the protege of some of the world's most accomplished thieves as they prepare for the epic crime. The project does not even have a distributor just yet, but casting is about to begin shortly. Hopefully Katherine Heigl stays away this time.
I'm willing to bet this will have flares of 21, one of Luketic's more tolerable films, but the plot still seems mostly generic. The script comes from Gillian Gorfil and Elizabeth Shorten who don't seem to have any previous writing credits to their name, so it's hard to know what to expect. Though I enjoyed Luketic's romantic comedy Win a Date with Tad Hamilton, the rest of his films in the genre (Legally Blonde, The Ugly Truth) have left a bad taste in my mouth. As for 21, it has its moments and Kevin Spacey is always good on his own if the movie doesn't perfectly stand on its own to feet (see Superman Returns). Maybe Luketic can work with him again this time around? Stay tuned as this project develops. Interested?

I agree that his movies are very average, but what is amazing is that this aussie guy was offered and directed Legally blonde at the age of just 23 straight after film school in australia. Bastard

Heigl was the best thing about those movies - blame Killers in particular on Luketic. Quite liked the Ugly Truth.
